Position Summary
The CDL Driver is responsible for safely hauling heavy civil construction equipment and materials to and from job sites, yards, plants, and vendors. This role supports field operations across multiple divisions and helps ensure projects remain on schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate tractor trailers, lowboys, flatbeds, belly dumps, end dumps, dump trucks, water trucks, and other commercial vehicles
- Transport heavy equipment including excavators, loaders, dozers, graders, rollers, skid steers, and trenchers
- Load and unload equipment safely, including operating equipment on and off trailers when qualified
- Properly secure loads using chains, binders, straps, and blocking in compliance with DOT regulations
- Conduct pre trip and post trip inspections and complete required documentation
- Maintain driver logs and comply with all federal, state, and local traffic laws and transportation regulations
- Lead by example and represent KE&G in a professional manner on job sites and public roadways
- Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, dispatch, and shop personnel
- Assist with minor maintenance, fueling, and equipment checks as needed
- Follow all company safety standards and job site protocols at all times
Qualifications
- Valid Class A CDL required
- Clean driving record
- Experience with belly dumps, end dumps, and dump trucks preferred
- Minimum 2 years of experience hauling heavy civil construction equipment preferred
- Knowledge of DOT regulations and load securement standards
- Experience operating heavy equipment for loading and unloading preferred
- Strong understanding of construction and traffic control safety practices
- Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, nights, weekends, and overtime as needed
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Frequent climbing on and off trailers and equipment
- Ability to manually secure loads
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Work Environment
- Civil construction job sites including roadway, utility, grading, and asphalt projects
- Exposure to dust, noise, heavy equipment, and active traffic zones
