Land Survey Technician - Minot, ND
We are seeking a motivated and driven team member to join our Land Surveying team. The successful candidate will work alongside Land Surveying professionals to assist in providing surveying services with gaining hands-on experience and skills. - Gain exposure to Land Surveying practices while playing an active role in the field on projects such as land boundary surveying, mapping, construction staking, 3D scanning, or aerial surveying with Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS).
Responsibilities
- Operate survey instruments to assist in conducting field surveys for boundaries, topography, data collection, geodetic control, etc. under the supervision of surveying professionals.
- Provide construction staking for site layout, structures, grading, paving, roadways, drainage features, etc.
- Assist field crew with preparing notes, assembling field data, records, and field drawings.
- Assist with processing field data, perform survey calculations, and prepare legal descriptions.
- Utilize CAD Civil 3D for legal surveying documents and site survey drafting.
Experience And Qualifications
- High school diploma required; degree in surveying or related field preferred but not required.
- Basic knowledge of AutoCAD or a willingness to learn.
- Basic knowledge of survey equipment such as GPS, Total Station, and Automatic level or a willingness to learn.
- Basic knowledge of the effective practices, methods, and techniques of land surveying or a willingness to learn.
- Valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record.
- Land Surveyor in Training (LSIT) certified or ability to obtain within 12 months preferred but not required.
- Willingness to travel.
- Internship or previous experience in land surveying preferred but not required.
- All applicants must be able to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.
Physical
- Ability to walk up to 10 miles on uneven terrain
- May require lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, with rare lifting of up to 75 pounds
- Perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs as well as moving the whole body such as running, maneuvering, climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials
- Drive and navigate vehicles or mechanized equipment including but not limited to all-terrain vehicles or water craft
- Inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects
- Use hands and arms to handle, install, position, and manipulate or move materials
- Service, repair, calibrate, regulate, fine-tune, or test machines, devices, and equipment that operate primarily based on electrical or electronic principles
- May be required to wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) including but not limited to, flame resistant clothing, hard hat, and protective footwear
