Fractional Finance Manager (Nonprofit) – Part-Time | Greater New Haven Area, CT
$40-50/hour

A well-established, mission-driven nonprofit organization in the Greater New Haven area is seeking a Fractional Finance Manager to support its accounting operations and financial oversight on a part-time basis.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on accounting professional who enjoys wearing multiple hats—owning day-to-day financial operations while also partnering with leadership on reporting, budgeting, and strategic initiatives.

About the Role

This position will oversee the organization’s full accounting cycle across multiple programs, including community services and fundraising initiatives. The ideal candidate is comfortable operating independently, bringing both strong technical accounting skills and the ability to provide financial insight to leadership.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Operations

Oversee accounts payable and vendor management (coding, processing, issue resolution)
Review and monitor cash receipts, deposits, and proper accounting treatment
Maintain accurate financial records within QuickBooks
Ensure strong internal controls and compliance with financial procedures

Month-End Close & Reporting

Perform account reconciliations (bank, credit card, and balance sheet accounts)
Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals and adjustments
Review general ledger activity and ensure accuracy of financial data
Manage accounts receivable and monitor aging

Financial Reporting

Prepare monthly financial statements and supporting schedules
Develop and deliver budget vs. actual reporting (monthly and YTD)
Produce AR and AP aging reports
Support preparation of board-level financial reporting packages

Audit & Compliance

Lead audit preparation and serve as liaison with external auditors
Ensure timely completion of required filings (including 1099s)
Maintain compliance with nonprofit financial reporting standards
Track and manage fixed assets

Budgeting & Strategic Support

Partner with leadership to develop and monitor the annual budget
Provide financial insights to support decision-making and planning
Support financial tracking and reconciliation of fundraising activities

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
10+ years of progressive accounting experience
Experience in nonprofit accounting strongly preferred
Proficiency in QuickBooks
Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting
Experience supporting audits and working with external auditors
Ability to work independently and manage priorities in a part-time environment

Position Details

Part-time / fractional engagement (~10–15 hours per week, during business hours)
In-office role; potential for hybrid flexibility down the road
