Job Summary
The
Human Resources Business Partner supports CCMSI’s employee relations and engagement initiatives by partnering closely with leaders, managers, and employees to deliver consistent, high‑quality HR services. This role is primarily focused on employee relations, employee engagement and recognition programs, and the development and delivery of HR training. Based out of CCMSI’s Danville, IL office, this position will operate on a hybrid schedule following the successful completion of an initial training period. The ideal candidate brings strong communication skills, working knowledge of employment laws, and the ability to navigate employee issues with professionalism, discretion, and sound judgment.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Serves as a resource to managers, supervisors and employees related to employee relations issues and concerns in consistently applying HR policies.
- Conducts investigations into employment-related matters in accordance with CCMSI policies and procedures.
- Develops and delivers in-services for staff and leaders as required to achieve goals and objectives.
- Responds to HR phone calls and provides assistance as needed, logging calls as appropriate; participates in educational sessions, including newsletter article submissions.
- Facilitates training and education programs on HR related topics as assigned for managers or staff.
- Implements HR related strategies to improve retention and reduce turnover. Assists in gathering data for retention, turnover and engagement.
- Develops, implements and maintains employee engagement and recognition programs designed to improve employee retention and engagement. May serve as an active member of the employee activity and wellness committees as assigned.
- Responds to unemployment claim notices by providing accurate information within the claim system.
- Maintenance of paperless record keeping system for personnel files in accordance with state and federal guidelines.
- Performs assigned HR related tasks, including updating of information contained in HRIS database and applicant tracking system.
- Serves as the HR representative in termination meetings with managers and employees, which including preparing talking points and assisting manager with the return of CCMSI property and issuance of final paycheck.
- Updates assigned learning management content on an annual basis.
- Where appropriate, seeks legal general counsel advice and/or advice of Senior HR team members prior to proceeding in high-risk situations before proceeding to reduce risk of E & O.
Qualifications
Requirements
- Minimum of one year of experience in Human Resources, Employee Relations, or a related professional role
- Working knowledge of federal and state employment laws and HR best practices
- Experience supporting employee relations matters, including investigations, exit interviews, and policy application
- Ability to develop and deliver HR‑related training, in‑services, or educational programs
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including professional email communication and employee de‑escalation
- Proven ability to exercise independent judgment, critical thinking, and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and shift focus in a dynamic work environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; experience with HRIS and applicant tracking systems preferred
- Experience responding to unemployment claims and supporting retention initiatives preferred
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion when handling sensitive employee information
- Willingness to travel infrequently to CCMSI offices or client locations as needed
- Reliable, predictable attendance during assigned work hours
Preferred Certifications:
- PHR or SHRM‑CP certification preferred, but not required
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Management, or a related field preferred

- Completion of thorough, well‑documented investigations with minimal compliance risk

- Demonstrated contribution to employee engagement, recognition, retention, and turnover‑reduction efforts
- Accurate and timely response to unemployment claims and HR inquiries
- Consistent attention to detail in HR documentation, recordkeeping, and HRIS updates
- Achievement of annual goals and ongoing progress discussed in monthly check‑ins with management
- Successful completion of the 60‑day initial training period and continued development with the Employee Relations Manager
Compensation & Compliance
The posted salary reflects CCMSI’s good-faith estimate in accordance with applicable pay transparency laws. Actual compensation will be based on qualifications, experience, geographic location, and internal equity. This role may also qualify for bonuses or additional forms of pay.
