Nobis has an exciting opportunity for a
Project Engineer/Scientist to work from our
New Jersey office (as part of our MA Environmental team) and serve as a project team member for the planning and/or design of environmental projects including assessment, characterization, investigation, design, remediation, and/or permitting of a facility, property, or site that may or is suspected to contain contaminants within the soil, groundwater, air, and/or other media throughout the northeast region.

Essential Functions:

- Collaborates with team members and others to effectively execute assignments. Collects environmental soil, water, air, and other media samples both individually and as part of a field team; operates, calibrates, and maintains necessary field equipment and instruments; performs routine personnel and instrument decontamination; collects or oversees sampling during drilling; packages samples for shipping to an analytical laboratory; and ships samples for analysis.
- Serves as Site Safety Officer, field engineer/scientist/geologist, or other to support environmental project work; initiates training as field team leader for larger environmental projects.
- Reviews, evaluates, and interprets technical reports, specifications, plans, calculations, construction schedules, and cost estimates for projects. Works with team members to complete environmental investigation and remediation projects, including sampling, drilling, and decontamination tasks.
- Communicates technical information with equipment and materials vendors, accurately documents such communications, and applies the information obtained to the relevant project work.
- Visits project sites and evaluates ongoing work by meeting and talking with contractors and subcontractors, owners, regulators, and other consultants, and prepares written inspection and observation summaries. May be required to direct field technicians and other staff during field work and coordinate work tasks.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science (B.S.) or Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree from an accredited four-year college or university in science or engineering (e.g., Environmental Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, Earth Science, or related field). Minimum of three years of experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master of Science (M.S.) degree is desirable.
- Engineers must possess or have the ability to possess EIT designation. Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensure is encouraged. Engineers must show specific progress in obtaining training and experience to support certifications, licenses, and registrations.
- Must possess a valid driver's license, have own transportation, and be able to travel for project site visits, meetings, data collection, and training. Travel is highly dependent on project work requirements and may be extensive at times.
Preferred Skills/Experience:
- Active involvement and engagement in subsequent education (e.g., Master’s degree, Toastmasters), professional societies (e.g., ASCE, LSPA), preparation of technical papers related to work assignments, and/or other activities that strengthen and broaden the employee’s and Nobis’ technical positions is encouraged.
- Unique Qualifiers for This Position:
- Have or have the ability to obtain the NJ Licensed Site Remediation Professional (LSRP).
- Knowledge and experience with State regulations in one or more of the following States is desirable: New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and Puerto Rico. Experience with Department of Defense (DoD), EPA Superfund and other Federal Agencies is preferable. Knowledge of Federal CECLA/Superfund requirements for RI/FS, RD and RA is preferable.
