DCS Air & Space Technology (AST) Sector is seeking a Software Engineer to join our Digital Engineering team. This role is focused on the development, integration, and support of advanced software applications built using Unreal Engine and C++, with additional emphasis on geospatial data integration, 3D content, and desktop application development. At DCS, an employee-owned company delivering innovative solutions across Defense, Aerospace, Human Factors, and Security, you will work alongside multidisciplinary technical teams supporting important Department of Defense programs. You will contribute to the design and development of interactive software applications that combine real-time 3D visualization, engineering data, geospatial information, and custom user interfaces. The Software Engineer will support the development of Unreal Engine-based applications, integrate GIS and 3D assets, develop C++ software components, and troubleshoot complex application issues. This position offers the opportunity to work with modern visualization technologies and help create software solutions used for advanced analysis, demonstration, and decision support. Essential Job Functions: Design, develop, integrate, and maintain software applications using Unreal Engine and C++. Develop application features, tools, and software components supporting interactive 3D visualization and analysis. Integrate GIS and geospatial data into Unreal Engine applications. Support the preparation, optimization, and integration of 3D models and assets, including content developed using Blender. Develop and integrate desktop application functionality using C++ and Qt. Design and implement user interfaces and support application workflows. Integrate external data, software components, and engineering information into Unreal Engine applications. Debug and troubleshoot C++ and Unreal Engine applications, including application crashes, runtime issues, performance problems, and integration defects. Analyze existing software and identify opportunities to improve performance, reliability, maintainability, and usability. Work with engineers, modelers, analysts, and other technical personnel to translate program requirements into software capabilities. Support technical demonstrations involving Unreal Engine applications, geospatial data, visualization tools, and other integrated technologies. Develop and maintain technical documentation related to application architecture, software interfaces, development procedures, and troubleshooting. Required Skills: Due to the sensitivity of customer-related requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required. Must possess an active Secret-level U.S. Department of Defense security clearance. Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, engineering, mathematics, or a related technical discipline and at least 5 years of relevant experience. Experience developing applications using C++. Experience developing, modifying, or integrating applications using Unreal Engine. Experience debugging complex C++ and Unreal Engine applications. Experience designing, developing, and integrating graphical user interfaces using Qt. Knowledge of GIS concepts, geospatial data, coordinate systems, and geospatial data integration. Knowledge of 3D modeling workflows and experience working with 3D assets created in tools such as Blender. Experience integrating 3D models, textures, terrain, or other visualization assets into real-time applications. Understanding of object-oriented software design and application architecture. Experience using source control and working within collaborative software development environments. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose software, integration, and performance issues. Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams. Ability to travel as required. Desired Skills: Active Secret-level U.S. Department of Defense security clearance. Advanced experience with Unreal Engine, including engine architecture, plugins, modules, and custom C++ development. Experience with Unreal Engine rendering, materials, terrain, level development, or performance optimization. Experience integrating large-scale or dynamic GIS datasets into Unreal Engine or other real-time 3D environments. Experience with geospatial technologies, libraries, and data formats used for terrain, imagery, vector data, and coordinating transformations. Knowledge of the integration and use of SubrScene BLUE. Experience with the ECHO terrain-building product. Experience generating and integrating IMAGE World tiles. Proficiency with Blender, including model preparation, optimization, UVs, materials, and asset export workflows. Experience optimizing 3D assets for use in real-time applications. Experience developing custom widgets and application interfaces using Qt and C++. Experience profiling and debugging memory, rendering, threading, or application performance issues in C++ applications. Experience integrating third-party C++ libraries, SDKs, APIs, or external data sources into Unreal Engine applications.
