POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Facilities/Construction Project Leader (FAC) is responsible for leading the planning, design, construction, commissioning, and startup of facility, infrastructure, and capital improvement projects across BAC operations. This role oversees projects from concept through completion, ensuring alignment with business objectives, operational requirements, safety standards, budget expectations, and project schedules.
The FAC serves as BAC's primary point of contact for site development, facility expansion, infrastructure modernization, utility systems, and construction activities. Working closely with Operations, Engineering, Manufacturing, EHS, Maintenance, and external partners, the position ensures facilities are designed and delivered to support operational excellence, future growth, sustainability objectives, and employee experience.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Lead all phases of facility construction, renovation, expansion, and infrastructure projects from feasibility through commissioning and operational handoff.
- Manage land and site development activities, including grading, utilities, drainage, paving, parking lots, employee amenities, and facility expansion projects.
- Develop and manage project scope, schedules, budgets, capital expenditure requests, risk assessments, and resource plans.
- Coordinate architects, engineers, consultants, contractors, and regulatory agencies throughout project execution.
- Oversee construction activities to ensure compliance with BAC safety standards, quality expectations, and project requirements.
- Manage contractor selection, contract administration, bid evaluation, vendor performance, and project reporting.
- Lead permitting processes and ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
- Direct the design, installation, and improvement of infrastructure systems including:
- Electrical distribution systems
- HVAC systems
- Natural gas systems
- Water distribution systems
- Fire protection systems
- Facility utilities and support infrastructure
- Lead facility layout and space planning initiatives including offices, employee facilities, restrooms, warehouses, loading docks, and material flow improvements.
- Support implementation and optimization of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- Ensure effective building commissioning, startup, testing, and turnover of all construction and infrastructure projects.
- Drive sustainability, energy efficiency, and LEED-related initiatives where appropriate.
- Develop facility standards, maintenance documentation, and operating procedures.
- Train plant facilities and maintenance personnel on new systems, infrastructure, maintenance requirements, and operational best practices.
- Provide regular project updates and recommendations to business and site leadership.
NATURE AND SCOPE
This position operates with a high degree of independence and is responsible for managing multiple concurrent facility and construction projects of varying size and complexity across BAC locations. The role requires significant collaboration with site leadership, engineering teams, contractors, consultants, and external agencies to ensure successful project execution.
The Facilities/Construction Project Leader must balance strategic planning with hands-on project oversight, making decisions that directly impact facility performance, operational efficiency, employee safety, capital spending, and long-term growth objectives. The position regularly manages confidential project information, capital budgets, and contractor relationships while ensuring projects meet BAC standards for safety, quality, sustainability, and operational readiness.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Facilities Management, Architecture, or a related technical field.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive experience managing facility, infrastructure, construction, manufacturing expansion, or capital project initiatives.
- Demonstrated experience leading large-scale construction and facility projects from concept through commissioning.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Construction project management
- Building systems and infrastructure
- HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and utility systems
- Fire protection and life safety systems
- Site development and permitting processes
- Building codes and regulatory compliance
- Experience managing contractors, consulting firms, architects, and engineering organizations.
- Experience developing and managing project budgets, schedules, and capital expenditures.
- Working knowledge of sustainability programs, LEED principles, and energy efficiency initiatives preferred.
- Experience implementing or supporting CMMS platforms preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to influence stakeholders and lead cross-functional project teams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project management tools.
