About the Role
We are looking for a Biologist/Wetland Scientist to join our Portland, Oregon office, supporting our Oregon and southwest Washington teams. As part of our Environmental Planning & Compliance (EP&C) team, you will provide expertise in wetlands and waters, threatened and endangered species, permitting, and general natural resources services for various transportation, habitat, and other projects.
This is a hybrid position reporting to the EP&C Senior Scientist. The role may require travel to work sites and the ability to manage and conduct fieldwork across the Western U.S.
You Will:
- Produce and manage wetland delineation reports, biological assessments, permit applications, and regulatory compliance documents.
- Manage small projects and support a senior project manager, leading tasks on large wetland, aquatic, and plant/wildlife resources projects.
- Conduct wetland delineations, wetland and habitat functional assessments, vegetation and wildlife surveys, mitigation and ecological compliance monitoring; and critical areas and natural resource assessments.
- Prepare permitting and regulatory compliance documents to support Clean Water Act Section 404, Endangered Species Act Section 7, DSL removal fill rules, and local natural resource and critical area codes in Oregon/Washington; conduct agency coordination; prepare mitigation plans; and provide data analysis and interpretation.
- Meet scope and budget requirements, schedules, and team coordination.
You Have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Environmental Sciences, or related discipline with 2+ years of demonstrated experience in the Pacific Northwest conducting wetland and biological fieldwork, preparing natural resource permit applications, and technical report preparation.
- Consulting experience or direct interaction with consulting teams is preferred A working knowledge of Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, and State/local wetlands and natural resource regulations in Oregon and Washington is desired.
- Familiarity with the flora, fauna, soils, and aquatic ecosystems of the Pacific Northwest is required.
- Wetland Professional in Training (WPIT) certification, completion of a wetland certificate program through University of Washington or Portland State University, or equivalent trainings preferred.
- Strong technical writing skills are required. GPS/ARC GIS experience is a plus.
- The ability to travel and to conduct manual labor including navigation through heavy brush; digging soil pits; travel on uneven terrain in muddy and flooded conditions; and fieldwork in all weather is required.
Compensation Information: Base salary for this position is in the range of $65,000-$80,000.
Compensation is determined by factors such as education, experience, location, and role. As employee-owners, we are eligible for performance-based bonuses and our salaries are reviewed annually. We value transparency and look forward to discussing our compensation structure.
