Overview
As a CQA Technician for Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc. (CEC), you'll work out of Gold River (Sacramento) or San Deigo offices in California. This is a seasonal, as-needed position with the responsibility of performing Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) services to observe, document and monitor construction activities associated with site construction. Projects are generally located within California but opportunities may also be available throughout the west coast (Oregon, Washington, Nevada and Arizona) and nationally. Project work typically occurs between April and October, 50-60 hours per week. Additional work may be available outside of this time frame if applicant is open to opportunities outside of California but is not guaranteed.
Projects will include site civil grading, retention pond construction, stormwater control facilities, landfill liner systems and closure cap systems, and landfill gas collection and control systems. You will work as a member of the project CQA team, and at times independently, to evaluate whether the completed construction meets governing project specifications and regulatory permit conditions. You will perform field testing of various construction materials including earth fill, geosynthetics, and concrete; and secure samples of materials that are laboratory tested to confirm compliance with project specifications. You will also work closely with the CEC project manager to prepare the as-built documentation needed to certify completed work including completing daily field reports and photo logs. Travel will be required for project services and travel expenses covered for the duration of each project.
The pay range for this position is between $25-35/hour based on experience and location (in addition, CEC offers overtime pay and other great benefits).
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required;
- Interest in learning CQA services to create a life-long career or entry way into civil engineering;
- Valid driver’s license and ability to drive a pickup truck;
- Ability and interest to travel for work outside of the area for assignments typically ranging from 3 to 6 months in duration;
- Desire and willingness to be trained in CQA procedures for various materials of construction and to develop as a key member of our CQA services team;
- Ability to speak and write professionally;
- Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel is required;
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and walk up/down slopes;
- Must be able to work up to 12-hours outdoors in hot or cold environments safely;
- Ability to provide input and feedback to others in the field such as contractor, subcontractors and work colleagues to complete work tasks according to project specifications;
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety;
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek;
- Prior experience as a field technician in construction quality assurance (CQA) preferred;
- Position will benefit from the understanding of civil and geotechnical engineering design and background in earthworks construction including the ability to read and understand technical civil design drawings and technical specifications;
- First Aid/CPR, OSHA 30 hour Construction Safety, Nuclear Gauge, and/or OSHA 40 hour HAZWOPER training and certificate preferred, but can be obtained as part of our training program if needed.
