Job Title: Accounting Manager, Merchandise Operations

Job Summary: As the Accounting Manager, Merchandise Operations, you will be responsible for leading general accounting functions related to Merchandise Accounting, including Store Inventory, Sales Audit, Lottery and Accounts Receivable. You will maintain and support Wawa’s inventory position at the stores and ensure accurate store gross profit accounting.
Principal Duties:
- Provide financial and strategic leadership to ensure the appropriate, timely and accurate accounting treatment and reporting of store sales, cost of goods sold, inventory and accounts receivable.
- Oversee the daily, weekly, and monthly activities involved in period-end closings and accrual information as it relates to Store Operations Accounting. Assist in and support the weekly and period-end accounting closing through review and signoff of journal entries and preparation of supporting schedules. Ensure period-end closing deadlines are met.
- Manage weekly and monthly analyses performed by Store Operations departments. Ensure that all reporting practices are consistent with GAAP for external reporting and that the balance sheet analysis is accurately completed to ensure proper recording of financial data.
- Supervise weekly inventories performed by the Inventory Control Field Advisors to ensure compliance with the internal and external audit requirements. Modify inventory field physical count program to meet the ongoing needs of the business while supporting strategic partners when discrepancies or training issues are identified.
- Lead the review and analysis of weekly store inventory levels, shrink and spoilage expenses, as well as unusual product costs trends. Lead the identification of root cause analysis for unusual inventory fluctuations and ensure timely resolution to all inventory issues.
- Develop the processes and procedures to support Wawa sales through various digital channels and ensure information is presented accurately and timely to internal partners.
- Plan, direct and manage the activities and results of the Accounts Receivable departments, including the accurate and timely billing and collection of vendor income accruals and miscellaneous corporate and real estate receivables along with the related reporting and analysis. Support the corporate wholesale department in reporting and collection activities.
- Support all new programs that impact Store Inventory and Accounts Receivable. Build and maintain strong business relationships with Warehouse Supply Chain management, Store Operations, Marketing, Asset Protection Team and other strategic partners to lead and support successful implementations.
- Provide timely and consistent financial data needed for the budgeting process across Merchandise store operations teams.
- Direct the continued development and refinement of accounting infrastructure and internal controls to support compliance with GAAP accounting and reporting requirements. Identify, develop and implement process and procedural improvements to improve efficiencies and strengthen internal controls.
- Analyze period management reports with an emphasis on identifying and communicating significant trends to users of financial statements prepared by the Corporate Accounting team.
- Develop, maintain and analyze quality improvement metrics to ensure that Store Accounting procedures provide actionable information through continuous process improvements, superior customer service and accurate and useful reporting. Evaluate existing processes and identify areas of opportunities or root causes of errors to formulate the methodologies that drive positive change.
- Manage multiple projects with changing priorities. Manage with the future in mind and recommend enhancements to current reporting processes and software systems. Lead the store inventory and accounts receivable departments for any system enhancements, upgrades or changes.
- Oversee and direct department efforts in connection with strategic projects and new initiatives that impact the business. Manage resources and project plans to ensure proper focus and effort is dedicated to strategic projects.
- Provide overall direction and support for team and monitor and assess individual work in accordance with high standards of excellence. Provide feedback, coaching, support, opportunities for development, complete performance appraisals, take corrective action when appropriate, and participate in hiring decisions.

Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business or related field preferred, CPA or Master’s degree a plus
- Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience in a retail organization
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in sales audit, inventory systems or related business processes
- Knowledge of Enterprise Reporting Systems (SAP preferred)
- Highly skilled in Microsoft Office suite applications
- Knowledge of other finance technology tools a plus
