Mark Thomas is hiring an experienced HR professional in Southern California! The Human Resources (HR) Manager ensures Mark Thomas is compliant with current state and federal laws, regulations, and industry guidelines related to employment. This position is responsible for all operational areas of Human Resources including workforce planning and employment, development, compensation and benefits, labor compliance, and employee relations. The HR Manager also works with regional leaders to foster a productive and engaging work environment and generate opportunities for growth and success.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintains labor compliance with all state, federal, local and private agencies; ensures industrial relations and prevailing wage compliance with Unions and the DIR.
- Assists the Director of HR and regional HR Managers to gather and evaluate total compensation data annually and develop or update position compensation bands; maintains general awareness of market competition in assigned geographic region.
- Maintains position descriptions; researches and writes descriptions for new roles, classifies and comps position
- descriptions accordingly.
- Processes promotions, job changes, and separations, administers leave of absences to Company standards and in compliance of state, federal, and local law.
- Advises division/project managers on employee relations issues and recommends corrective action per the employee manual and applicable employment laws.
- Administers all health and fringe benefits to the employees, interprets benefit policies to employees, and is the contact for the benefit vendors.
- Researches new benefit options, assists the Director in the annual renewal process; partners with regional HR Managers to plan, coordinate and execute the annual employee benefits open enrollment.
- Ensures employment and HR related information is always clearly communicated to the employees.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelors’ Degree in HR or related field; PHR/SPHR, and/or SHRM-CP certifications preferred.
- 8-10+ years of Human Resources experience; previous HRM experience preferred.
- Experience in professional services environment a plus; within the architecture, engineering, and construction industry strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of California employment laws and practices.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Experience working with HRIS systems preferred.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time to maximize efficiency.
- Ability to manage direct reports and partner with team members effectively.
- Ability to work with all levels of experience from new professional to executive.
- Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with a variety of unique and diverse people and personalities.
- Proven ability to provide excellent internal and external client service.
- This management position will require driving within the region to office locations and industry events, etc. and qualified candidates will need to meet Company driver eligibility requirements and must possess a valid state driver’s license.

The offered rate of compensation (California locations only) will be based on individual education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and geographic location. The base compensation range for this position is $90,0000.00 - $165,000.00 annually. Due to the nature of the position, the selected candidate will be subject to a criminal background check following the extension of a conditional offer.
