Components Engineer II
Full-Time, Fully On-site, Exempt position
Summary Description:
The Components Engineer will support the Components Engineering group by serving as the design-responsible engineer for electrical, electronic, and electromechanical components used in Mobile and Off-road HVAC products. This position is responsible for the selection, specification, design integration, validation support, and lifecycle management of components including (but not limited to) electronic actuators, water valves, switches, sensors, and other electrical/electronic HVAC components. The role requires cross-functional coordination with design engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and external suppliers to ensure components meet performance, reliability, cost, and manufacturability requirements.
Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
- Serve as the design-responsible engineer for electromechanical and electronic HVAC components including:
- Electronic actuators
- Water valves (electrically actuated)
- Switches and operator controls
- Sensors, connectors, and related electrical/electronic components
- Define component requirements and specifications including functional, electrical, environmental, reliability, and packaging requirements.
- Lead component selection and supplier evaluation efforts; develop and maintain approved component lists where applicable.
- Develop and maintain engineering documentation including component specifications, drawings, test requirements, and change records.
- Support system integration by working with mechanical design and electrical harness teams to ensure proper packaging, interfaces, routing, sealing, mounting, and serviceability.
- Participate in design reviews and ensure component designs meet applicable standards and internal design guidelines.
- Support component validation activities including:
- Test planning and coordination
- Bench testing and functional verification
- Environmental and durability testing support (temperature, vibration, moisture, corrosion, etc.)
- Root cause investigation and corrective action for test or field failures
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to component cost reduction, quality improvement, and reliability enhancement.
- Control complexity of the assigned components by right-sizing the released and validated catalog of parts.
- Support prototype builds and troubleshooting in lab and manufacturing settings as needed.
- Lead and/or support engineering change activities (ECR/ECO/ECN) for component-related updates, including impact assessment across product lines.
- Coordinate with purchasing and supply chain to address component availability, obsolescence, alternate sourcing, and supplier performance issues.
- Provide technical support for manufacturing and quality issues related to component installation, test, and field service concerns.
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of experience working with electrical/electronic and electromechanical components in a product development environment.
- Experience with component-level requirements definition and validation.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of electromechanical systems including motors/actuators, gears, solenoids, switches, sensors, and wiring/connectors.
- Ability to work independently as a design-responsible engineer and manage multiple active projects.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience in root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in HVAC systems, thermal systems, or Mobile and Off-road equipment.
- Familiarity with automotive or heavy equipment electrical architecture and component qualification expectations.
- Experience with environmental qualification testing (vibration, thermal cycling, ingress protection, corrosion).
- Experience with DFMEA/PFMEA, DVP&R, and structured product development processes.
- Experience with embedded electronics integration (basic understanding of control logic, feedback devices, PWM/analog signals, etc.).
- Experience supporting supplier design reviews and managing supplier technical deliverables.
- Familiarity with applicable standards (e.g., IP ratings, ISO/SAE/IEC standards relevant to electrical components).
- Experience with multiphysics 1D simulation software – in particular control algorithm development.

- Sufficient manual dexterity and motor control to use common drafting implements and calculators.
- Ability to work in both office and manufacturing/lab environments.
- Ability to support prototype builds and testing activities, including occasional hands-on troubleshooting.

Salary Grade** for this role is as follows:
Min: $90,000/annual
Mid: $100,000/annual
Max: $110,000/annual
*Subject to all local, state and federal regulatory limits
