SUMMARY:
This role is vital in driving the execution of new product development initiatives, ensuring projects advance on schedule, risks are mitigated, stakeholders are aligned, and deliverables are completed with high quality. The ideal candidate functions as the central operational coordinator of project activities (coordinating schedules, tracking milestones, resolving execution issues, and synchronizing contributions across engineering, operations, supply chain, quality, and other functions.)
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Project Planning & Coordination
· Develop, maintain, and update detailed project plans, schedules, and timelines that span the full product development lifecycle (from investigation through launch).
· Track and report on project milestones, deliverables, dependencies, and critical path items.
· Support the definition and documentation of project scope, requirements, and acceptance criteria.
Cross-Functional Coordination
· Act as the operational interface among engineering, design, manufacturing, quality, sourcing, and marketing / commercial teams for NPD matters.
· Drive vendors, consultants, and external resources to meet schedule commitments
· Facilitate and coordinate project meetings (core team, design reviews, gate reviews), prepare agendas, capture action items, and follow up on execution.
· Ensure alignment and communication of schedule changes, risks, and decisions to stakeholders and leadership.
Documentation, Reporting & Compliance
· Maintain accurate project documentation, status reports, dashboards, and version control.
· Assist in risk and issue identification, escalation, and mitigation tracking.
· Support preparation of project deliverables for stage-gate reviews.
Resource & Logistics Support
· Help manage resource allocation, task assignments, and workload balance across teams.
· Coordinate procurement needs for prototypes, tooling, and test assets (as applicable).
Process Improvement
· Recommend and help implement improvements to NPD execution processes, tools, and reporting.
Note: This role is not intended to be a primarily design or engineering hands-on role, though technical aptitude is necessary for coordination with engineering deliverables and documentation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Technical Skills
· Proficiency with project management / scheduling tools (MS Project / Planner, Smartsheet)
· Solid working knowledge of Microsoft 365 (SharePoint, PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
· Strong documentation, reporting, and stakeholder communication skills
Core Competencies
· Excellent organizational, time management, and task prioritization skills
· Clear verbal and written communication; ability to convey status and issues to technical and non-technical audiences
· Demonstrated ability to manage multiple parallel tasks with competing deadlines
PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS:
Industry Experience
· Working knowledge of stage-gate environment
· Prior experience in structured New Product Development (NPD)
· Experience in manufacturing, engineering, or technology product development
· Experience in power distribution equipment
· Familiar with safety certification and Nationally Recognized Test Laboratory (NRTL) processes (i.e. UL)
Software/Tools
· Familiarity with PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) or ERP systems.
· Experience with advanced project visualization or portfolio reporting tools.
Technical Aptitude
· Ability to interpret and communicate engineering concepts with cross-functional partners.
· Ability to read and interpret solid models, drawings, and schematics
· Background in mechanical, electrical, or related engineering environments is a plus.
Professional Certifications
· CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management), PMP (Project Management Professional), or equivalent credential is strongly preferred.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
· Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Project Management, or a related technical discipline OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
· 2+ years of experience coordinating projects in product development, engineering, operations, or related functions.
