Maintenance Manager

1. Job Purpose/Objective:
Starting salary at $100,000
This position is responsible for ensuring all company vehicles are maintained in proper operating condition and for ensuring that the maximum numbers of vehicles are available for daily use to meet the operational requirements for the Maui Bus, Tour and School Bus division of the company.
2. Essential Job Functions:
- Ensure all day-to-day maintenance operations are met and vehicles are serviced and repaired according to the manufacturer’s specifications (e.g., Maui Bus, RTT, School Bus)
- Plan, organize and manage the work of subordinate staff to ensure that the work is accomplished in a manner consistent with organizational requirements, policies, regulations, and contractual obligations/as prescribed by applicable contract.
- Implements schedule and policy changes.
- Monitor operations to ensure staff compliance with administrative policies and procedures, safety regulations (e.g. DOT, OSHA/HIOSH) and rules, and applicable government (e.g. DOT) regulations.
- Promote safe work activities by conducting safety audits, attending mandatory company safety training or meetings, and train/monitor staff to ensure safe practices to include safe use of vehicles, equipment, and facilities.
- Responsible for training/coaching, and performance management, which includes discipline and termination processes.
- Develops, evaluates, implements, communicates, and maintains Maintenance Dept. policies and procedures, as appropriate, to achieve goals.
- Assigns team members to their duties and responsibilities, inspecting performance throughout the work process to ensure compliance with all company, state and contract policies, procedures, regulations, and safety requirements.
- Correspondence with internal and external personnel to research, reply and resolve issues.
- Administrative duties including approving invoices, requisitions, and purchase orders; company documentation (notice to personnel, request to personnel, etc..); reviewing payroll, reviewing budgetary items; reviewing/implementing special programs; contracting vendors and manufacturers, etc.
- Leverage systems and technologies for increased efficiency and accuracy.
- Review written work orders daily to account for task(s), accomplishment(s), and work performed.
- May be required to travel to the outer islands to assist in vehicle repairs and/or provide operational support as needed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
3. Essential Skills (Minimum qualifications individual must possess when entering position) – i.e. skillsets, education, certifications, etc.:
- Minimum 5 years working experience in a fleet maintenance and/or shop environment.
- Must have minimum five (5) ASE certificates (e.g. Brakes, Suspension & Steering, Engines, Power-train (drive-line), Air Conditioning, Transmission, Engine Diagnosis, etc.)
- Hawaii State Mechanic License
- Must be able to utilize diagnostic equipment/ scanner -- OBD, Pro-ling.
- Able to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Able to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Must possess excellent communications skills (written & oral)
- Must have minimum Type 3 License and be able to upgrade to CDL.
- Operational knowledge of hand tools and shop equipment (e.g. vise, press. floor jacks. etc.) required.
- Must be able to work flexible days/ hours - weekends, nights, holidays.
- Computer knowledge of basic programs essential -- MS Word, Excel, email, etc.
- Able to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
- Able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
- Knowledgeable on renewable energy type fuels and green technologies.

3. Working Conditions/Job Environment:
- Must be able to stand and walk for sustained periods of time.
- Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting for extended periods of time.
- Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.
- Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and make fine discriminations in sound.
- The worker is subject to both environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and outside.
- The worker is required to have visual activity to perform an activity such as: operating and repairing machines/equipment.
- The worker is subject to hazards includes a variety of physical conditions such as proximity of moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, exposure to heat.
- Subject to atmospheric conditions: one or more of the following conditions affect the respiratory system of the skin: fumes, odors, dust, mists, and gases.
