Controller

Kensington, MD | In‑Office | $140,000 – $160,000 + Full Benefits

A well‑established, family‑owned construction company in Kensington, MD is seeking a hands‑on Controller to lead and elevate its accounting function. With over 30 years in business and continued growth, this company offers long‑term stability, a collaborative culture, and real visibility with ownership and leadership.

This is an in‑office leadership role overseeing a team of four and playing a critical role in financial operations, reporting, and job costing.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee day‑to‑day accounting operations, including AP, AR, payroll, and general ledger
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of four accounting professionals
Own job costing and Work‑In‑Progress (WIP) reporting for active construction projects
Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
Ensure accurate percentage‑of‑completion reporting and cost forecasts
Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
Maintain and improve internal controls and accounting processes
Partner closely with executive leadership to support strategic decision‑making
Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
CPA preferred
Significant experience in construction accounting
Strong background in job costing and WIP
Prior experience managing and developing an accounting team
Viewpoint software experience strongly preferred
Hands‑on, detail‑oriented leader who thrives in a growing environment
