Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced
Senior Project Manager with
Pre-K-12 (Education) project experience. In this position you will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and administering a major project or projects through all phases of development. You will work with staff, give directions and resolve architectural problems. You will establish and maintain budgets, schedules, and monitor adherence of terms of contract expectations. You will have autonomy to engage with clients and authority to direct, control, and monitor all project activities. Successful candidates will have strong multi-tasking skills and ability to oversee two to three project managers and multiple project teams.
This position is located in HMC’s
Los Angeles, CA office. The position requires 3 days in the office and the ability to work from home Mondays and Fridays.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage multiple projects through all phases of work with strong communication, organization, and delegation skills
- Champion sustainable design principles and support HMC’s design standards and guidelines
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate assigned staff; provide coaching and feedback to support professional growth
- Monitor project profitability, including revenue, margins, bill rates, and utilization
- Ensure high-quality design and construction documentation through collaboration with design leadership
- Lead production and review of drawings, specifications, and other project documents
- Serve as the primary client point of contact, ensuring responsiveness and effective relationship management
- Develop workplans, fee proposals, schedules, and resource allocations
- Oversee consultant selection and coordination in compliance with firm standards
- Review and monitor contract documents for quality, coordination, and adherence to the Architect Standard of Care
- Support business development, including participation in interviews and preparation of pursuit proposals and materials
- Assist with financial management including collection of aged accounts and resolution of budgetary issues
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Requirements
- Architectural degree from an accredited institution or equivalent experience
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in architectural project management and document production across all phases
- Demonstrated leadership, judgment, and decision-making abilities
- Ability to manage multiple clients, project managers, and complex schedules
- Proficiency with project management tools and architectural software.
- Advanced Revit proficiency required; familiarity with Bluebeam, BIM 360, and other applicable tools
- Display willingness to make decisions; exhibit sound and accurate judgment; support and explain reasoning for decisions, includes appropriate people in decision-making process; make timely decisions
- Ability to professionally communicate both verbally and in writing to give assignments to office support staff, consultants, and vendors
- Ability to correspond effectively and professionally with agencies, consultants, and clients
- Ability to write and edit specifications
- Set goals, prioritize, and plan work activities for self-management and use time efficiently
- Ability to analyze profitability, revenue, margins, bill rates, and utilization across projects
- Knowledgeable of daylighting, stormwater management, and commissioning
- Ability to market project capability through client interviews, public presentations, and professional publications
- Self-motivated with a drive to take on new challenges and support business development initiatives
The salary range for this position is $105,682 to $158,086.
The actual salary offered for this position will vary depending on multiple factors including the candidate’s qualification, education, position knowledge, work experience, skills, ability, work location, and internal incumbent compensation for similar roles. We do not anticipate individuals hired into this position will start at or near the top half of the range listed; the decision will be based on each individual case. The salary range listed above does not include other compensation elements such as discretionary bonus opportunities, employee stock ownership grants, paid time off, medical insurance, and other wage and benefit opportunities.
