Position Summary

Responsible for assisting the State Income Tax Current Year Compliance group with inputting corporate and partnership returns and applying all aspects of federal to state specific information as it relates to income and franchise tax returns. Analyze and prepare state and local income and franchise tax returns for the appropriate year. Assist with responding to state and local notices. Assist with research and special projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Input tax returns and related documents
Organize client data
Conduct tax analysis relating to federal to state tax modifications, and apply those changes to the various state and local income and franchise tax returns
Assist with developing and improving internal processes to increase efficiencies
Prepare state and local income and franchise tax returns, with an emphasis on combined, consolidated, and unitary returns
Update and maintain tax attribute schedules related to the returns as prepared
Prepare written correspondence to taxing authorities
Research the various state and local tax treatment requirements for partnership and corporation income and franchise tax returns, including state modifications, credits and apportionment

Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assist with special projects, such as voluntary disclosure and amnesty filings
Provide support to Tax Managers and Directors
Perform other duties as assigned

Education and Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or related field
3-5 years’ professional experience, preferably in accounting or tax; understanding of how state taxable income is affected by the federal return including tax reform implications
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
Intermediate knowledge of tax software such as OneSource and/or Corptax preferred
Demonstrated problem-solving and organizational skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Previous experience with state income tax preparation for large multi-state companies preferred
Travel as required (approximately 10-20%)
