Summary:
We’re looking for a community engagement consultant with demonstrated experience managing or supporting the delivery of project scopes and budgets in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, while providing client or customer service. The ideal candidate will produce high-quality, innovative work and skillfully manage multiple projects with competing timelines.
This position will manage and support community engagement teams for several transportation and environment projects, primarily within Washington state. This hybrid position provides flexibility to work remotely, with the expectation of some in-person work in our downtown Seattle office, as well as in-person community outreach work throughout the Puget Sound Region. Some outreach work will take place outside of 9-5 weekday work hours, which can be balanced out during the week as agreed to with the consultant’s supervisor and project teams.

Duties and Responsibilities
Drive community engagement strategy and manage or support project teams to successfully deliver projects on time and on budget, including but not limited to:
Community Engagement and Communications
- Develop communications and community engagement plans with strategies and tactics to meet client objectives, within scope and budget. Plans should include ways to meaningfully involve historically underserved communities in decision-making, including people who are Black, people who are Indigenous, and people of color; people with disabilities; people living in poverty; and people who use languages other than English.
- Prepare for, participate in, and provide notes and action items for working and check-in meetings with clients, partnering firms, and internal teams.
- Lead planning and implementation of project events and meetings, including in-person and virtual meetings, briefings, interviews and outreach booths at fairs and festivals. This includes managing workplans and budget associated with deliverables that could include graphics, websites, mailers, printing materials and display boards, travel, and refreshments; staffing events and managing staff responsibilities and performance; and debriefing and providing action items with clients.
- Research, write, and edit content for PowerPoint presentations and speaking notes, websites/online open houses, newsletters/emails, press releases, social media, informational materials, and reports.
- Maintain Excel databases to track contacts and correspondence.
- Draft responses to questions and correspondence from key audiences that include community members, elected officials, city staff, etc.
Project Management
- Track delivery of scopes of work (contracts) within established budgets; coordinating with accounting and leadership to manage issues and opportunities.
- Manage filing of project documents and deliverables, including draft and final versions of agendas, notes, summaries, and other documents.
- Lead or support monthly project invoicing and progress reporting.
- Lead or support project planning to assess staffing needs and hours.
- Lead or support project set ups and contracting.
- Collaborate with cross-disciplinary PRR teams, including the creative studio, research, and language services.
- Complete or manage completion of tasks by others – on time and within established hours.
Client Relations
- Establish and support relationships with clients, community-based organizations, and communities.
- Provide excellent customer service which includes:
- Respond to client and partner firm inquiries and needs in a timely manner.
- Prepare for meetings with clients to recall previously discussed information, asks and deliverables.
- Maintain accurate notes and records of actions items, completed work, and upcoming needs.
- Maintain confidentiality of client information.
Administrative
- Maintain or exceed billable utilization goals – the amount of time spent billing to client work.
- Complete timesheets and expense reports on time and with accurate information.

Experience/Education
Required:
- 3+ years of work experience in community engagement or communications
Desired:
- Experience managing and implementing community engagement scopes of work, including an understanding of project budgets
- Experience managing multiple projects with competing timelines
- Experience and strong interest in transportation (e.g., transit, connectivity, mobility justice, construction), health (e.g., social determinates of health and healthcare), or the environment (e.g., water infrastructure, clean water, built environment, waste management and recycling).
- Experience working with historically underserved communities and developing inclusive and equitable engagement strategies
- Experience working in consulting, customer or client service, and/or for government agencies
Required Skills
- Excellent public speaking, oral communications, and interpersonal communication (including with people from diverse backgrounds)
- Writing for the public information/education:
- Using plain language – strategies to translate technical information into plain language and tailor messages for public audiences
- Adapting to client styles
- Comfort working independently and efficiently
- Task and team management strategies toward meeting deadlines
- Understanding of editing and quality control methods e.g., maintaining templates, editing for grammar and typos, attention to detail and client style guides
- Comfort working in a variety of settings, including a busy office, virtual meetings (e.g., Zoom), meetings with elected officials, or in-person out in the community
- Proficient with PCs and MS software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams
- Understanding of and interest in civic activities, public affairs, and policies

Billable Utilization
In this role, your time will largely be spent working on projects and billing your time to clients. Our staff track and report their time spent on projects and company activities daily by the quarter hour (15 mins). Approximately 87% of your time in this role should be billed to clients (35 hours out of a 40-hour work week). The remainder would be billed to PRR to engage in business development, participate in growth and development opportunities, check in with supervisors, and participate in company activities and internal initiatives.
Compensation
The full salary range for this position is $65,000 – 75,000 per year. We aim to hire new employees between $65,000 - 70,000 (depending on experience) allowing for future compensation growth within the range based on aptitude in the role, context, progress, and performance against goals over time.
