The Engineering Team Lead will manage NPE Teams to support and develop New Product activities for the product/feature launches.This position is a hybrid of technical and managerial work, requiring coordination of projects, and managing design & engineering resources.
This role is accountable for engineering decisions, design execution, and product validation to ensure products meet performance, cost, and quality targets.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS (Required)
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- Years of Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of industry experience.
- Systems Experience:
- Minimum 2000hrs of working experience with 3D CAD & PLM software. Autodesk Inventor and Vault preferred.
- Intermediate Excel skills. Advanced Excel skills preferred. Moderate Power Point skills, advanced skills preferred
- Moderate Project Management skills.
- Minimum 3 yrs. of working experience with a manufacturing ERP system required. Experience in SAP preferred.
- Experience with maintaining Sharepoint sites preferred.
- Management Experience:
- Ability to accurately predict the duration of proposed tasks, develop estimates for resources, costs, rough timelines, and risks
- Develop detailed breakdown of deliverables for new designs, systems, sub-systems and products
- Some technical project management experience required. Working experience in Agile/Scrum environment preferred
- Ability to supervise technical staff, assign tasks and small projects to direct reports and extended design resources.
Technical Expertise:
- Experience with sheet metal design in manufacturing environment required.
- Familiarity w/ engineering selections for components and equipment, such as fans, pumps, piping, etc.
- Ability to work w/ vendors for purchased parts
- Ability to efficiently research, find technical information and leverage subject matter experts within the company to develop technically feasible proposals/ recommendations
- Ability to quickly learn new & existing software/tools for analyzing all aspects of products, including cost, performance ratings, etc.
- Ability to create a project budget of resources, time, and costs preferred
- Communication Experience:
- Proven record in effective written and oral communication
- Ability to clearly articulate the issue or risk with identified impact and proposals for potential path forward
- Must be able to filter and summarize the raw technical details to a concise message for non-technical team members and or leadership team
- Able to communicate to promote team’s cohesiveness as this role is viewed as a Technical Leader and owner of the engineering decisions and design
- Ability to deliver confidence to the cross-functional Project team members

NATURE & SCOPE

Direct Reports NPE Design & Engineering Team(s)
The Engineering Team Lead will work integrally with all Regional & Global Engineering teams as well as cross-functional Project Teams. He/ She will be expected to provide leadership, motivation, and coordination to the NPE team(s), in addition to performing project tasks.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
It is expected that the Engineering Team Lead will be responsible for the following:
Process Management:
- Manage Design & Engineering processes and demonstrate metric based improvements
- Work with and amongst the NPE Team(s) to engineer products that meet project targets, and are globally manufacturable within BAC facilities
- Lead NPE Team(s) through all phases NPI activities
- Coach and mentor NPE Teams to navigate early phase project scoping with Product Owners.
- Drive early engineering feasibility assessments to evaluate technical viability, risks, and alignment with project specifications
- Develop and estimate scope of work and design time accurately to support NPE Team backlog planning
- Coach team to apply DFMA & quality principles during MVP/prototype design phases ensuring that designs meet internal BAC standards.
- Support MVP build execution and ensure MVP/prototype is ready for design validation phases
- Ensure test plans are developed and executed to validate all DFMEA items, quality targets, and performance targets.
- Verify build issue list items and/or design modifications from testing phase are incorporated into final production designs
- Verify final production design meets all project requirements for performance, cost, and quality
- Ensure that all engineering & design deliverables are complete, reviewed, and aligned BAC expectations prior to launch
- Support pre-launch systems testing to verify launch readiness
- Ensure all key decisions and relevant product engineering data are documented, traceable, and stored in the appropriate locations
- Support product transition to regional teams ensuring all relevant product knowledge and design intent is communicated
Staff Management:
- Supervise daily design & engineering work to ensure compliance with internal standards
- Coordinate system design & product validation efforts across multiple projects to support project deadline and sprint commitments
- Identify strengths and areas of development of the NPE Team(s), and work with them to enhance skillsets
- Motivate the team to work efficiently and maintain high productivity
- Promote culture of cooperation, collaboration, training, continuous improvement, and having fun
- Train and mentor NPE Team members on BAC systems, products, and processes.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Travel periodically to BAC manufacturing facilities during prototype or pilot assembly and assist with prototype/pilot build
- Develop robust hand-off plans to assist Project Teams with product transition to Regional Engineering, as needed
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Working hours are the standard BAC 40 hours per week (typically 8:30am-5:00pm with flexible start/finish times allowed)
- Flex work Policy (hybrid work from home & office)
- Travel, both domestic and international can be up to 15% of the time
- Periodic evening/weekend hours required, although can often be done from home with the use of a portable computer.
- Primarily Sedentary Activity in the office will be experienced; however periodic travel to BAC manufacturing facilities with assembly (medium work) is required.
- The worker is required to have close visual acuity to review 3D computer models and project documents.
- The worker will typically be subjected to only indoor conditions; however, on occasional trips to BAC manufacturing facilities, the worker may experience heat, cold, humidity, and noise.
