As Senior Accounting Manager, you will play a pivotal, hands-on leadership role within our finance department, ensuring that our accounting practices adhere to the highest standards in a rigorous, compliance-driven environment. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of government and public sector accounting standards coupled with auditing experience.
This role requires excellent collaboration, effective communication, curiosity, the ability to navigate complex accounting landscapes through critical thinking, and strong problem-solving skills.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting Management:
- Provide comprehensive, hands-on oversight of all accounting operations, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and bi-weekly Payroll for over 100 employees in various states.
- Ensure the integrity of the general ledger, financial reports, and supporting schedules.
- Perform all necessary reconciliations for accounts, banks, and other records.
- Manage the preparation of state and local payroll, business tax filings, and regulatory filings, including business licenses, annual reports, census, and survey requests.
Leadership and Supervision:
- Lead and supervise the financial accounting team to ensure accuracy and timeliness across all accounting functions.
- Provide guidance, mentoring, training, and constructive feedback; handle performance reviews and career development activities.
Compliance and Audits:
- Oversee all aspects of financial compliance to adhere to GAAP, Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), AASHTO, and other relevant standards.
- Lead strategic audits, including company valuation, Incurred Cost Rate (ICR) reviews, and compliance testing and audits for ESOP and 401K, as well as client audits as needed.
Policy and Process Development:
- Develop and refine policies and internal controls to enhance financial governance and reduce risks.
- Oversee the automation and optimization of accounting processes, workflows, and support critical projects, including ERP migration, emphasizing your expertise with Deltek Vision or Vantagepoint.
Financial Reporting:
- Manage the entire fiscal close process to deliver precise and timely financial statements and reports.
- Analyze financial data and reports to provide actionable insights and recommendations to senior management.

Experience/Education
- At least 7 years of progressive experience in financial accounting or auditing
- Experience with Deltek Vision or Deltek Vantagepoint required
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, data validation, advanced formulas, dashboard creation, etc.)
- Experience in project-based professional services working with government and public sector clients.
Skills Required
- Expertise in Accounting Principles: Extensive knowledge of accounting principles, methodologies, and practices, with a focus on government contract accounting aligned with GAAP and FAR. Demonstrated understanding of overhead audit requirements.
- Stakeholder Coordination and Leadership: Demonstrated leadership in coordinating stakeholders and cross-functional teams. Proficient in managing diverse groups and communicating changes effectively to ensure alignment.
- Adaptability and Precision: Excellent ability to adapt to rapidly changing environments with a strong focus on time and deadline management, attention to detail, and accuracy.
Compensation
The full salary range for this position is $115,000 - $125,000 per year, depending on experience and allowing for future compensation growth within the range based on aptitude in the role, context, progress, and performance against goals over time.
