Brewer Science, Inc. is a major innovator of high-technology solutions for the semiconductor / microelectronics markets. We are currently seeking a purpose-driven candidate with an ownership mentality to fill an open position as a Quality Engineer (level II, III, or IV). This position will be located in Rolla, MO.
Summary:
A Quality Engineer is responsible for introducing, maintaining, and improving quality systems to support the development, introduction, and manufacturing of externally supplied new products, processes, and technologies, as well as the reduction of supplied material scrap. Quality Engineering is tasked with managing, meeting, and exceeding both internal and external customer expectations. Additionally, Quality Engineers aid in supplier development activities, driving existing suppliers to continuously improve product quality, responding effectively to corrective and preventive actions, and driving quality system improvements.
Responsibilities:
Quality Engineer II
- Support the implementation of quality systems and work closely with design, research and development, quality control, and manufacturing engineering teams on product and process design during the development and introduction of new products and technologies.
- Ensure that customer requirements are incorporated into product functional specifications and lead applicable risk and failure analysis (DFMEA/PFMEA) to ensure functional specification requirements are fully met during design validation.
- Ensure all appropriate documentation is in place before starting production.
- Work with key quality, applications, and manufacturing teams to troubleshoot issues and identify systemic process improvements for an overall reduction of material nonconformance, corrective actions, and customer complaints.
- Manage activities and produce data packages for change control and customer notifications.
- Support the effective use of SPC practices to monitor, stabilize, and improve the manufacturing process.
- Assist in the implementation of best practices for chemical manufacturing.
- Follow guidelines stated in the documented quality procedures and standards.
- Support supplier development activities including questionnaire completion, PCS review, non-conformance management, audits, and other activities as they arise.
- Collect and analyze data to track and report on quality metrics.
- Conduct post-batch reviews to ensure quality requirements are met for completed batches.
- Contribute to support and upkeep of quality management systems.
- Review and analyze data to identify trends and potential areas for improvement.
- Conduct and lead audits at suppliers and serve as audit participant in both customer and certification audits to ensure compliance with quality standards and customer expectations
- Provide quality support for additional customer requests as needed such as document reviews, audit documentation or questionnaires, response to questions, specification proposals, etc.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve quality issues.
- May train entry-level engineers and technicians.
- Develop and implement quality control plans, procedures, and work instructions to standardize processes and improve efficiency.
- Collaborate with suppliers to ensure the quality of raw materials and implement supplier quality management programs.
- Provide training and guidance to production staff on quality processes and procedures.
Quality Engineer III - Same duties as the Quality Engineer II.
- Additional duties as Quality Engineer III:
- Participate in cross-functional project teams to support new product development and process improvement initiatives.
- Serve as primary contact for key customers and escalate issues as needed
- Implement corrective and preventive actions to address deviations from quality standards.
- Collaborate on systematic improvement with suppliers to ensure quality standards are met.
- Ensure that raw materials and intermediate product specifications are developed with consideration to meeting customer requirements/expectations of the final product.
- Lead small projects and mentor junior team members to contribute to the overall success of the quality function.
- Conduct statistical analysis of production data to identify trends, variations, and areas for improvement.
- Conduct root cause analysis investigations for quality incidents and implement corrective and preventive actions to prevent recurrence.
Quality Engineer IV - Same duties as the Quality Engineer III.
- Additional duties as Quality Engineer IV:
- Provide technical expertise and support for complex quality issues and investigations.
- Lead quality audits and assessments to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
- Mentor, coach, and provide technical guidance to entry- and mid-level quality engineers and manufacturing teams.
- Develop and maintain the company's quality management system, including policies, procedures, and documentation.
- Collaborate with R&D to integrate quality considerations into new product development.
- Ensure compliance with industry and customer regulations and standards.
- Implement Six Sigma learning and activities across functional areas through training and communication of quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensure robust product control plans are incorporated in new product development to increase first-pass yield with zero defects at the customer.
- Utilize quality tools such as Five Whys, Eight Disciplines (8D), Design of Experiment, and statistical analysis.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives, such as Six Sigma projects, to optimize processes and enhance product quality.
Education & Credentials:
Quality Engineer II
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Manufacturing, or Material Science Engineering or related discipline and 2+ years of related experience or
- Master’s degree in related discipline or
- An equivalent combination of education and related experience
Quality Engineer III
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Manufacturing, or Material Science Engineering or related field and 4-8 years of related experience or
- Master’s degree and 2-5 years of experience or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Quality Engineer IV
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Manufacturing, or Material Science Engineering or related discipline and 6+ years of related experience or
- Master’s degree and 4+ years of experience or
- PhD in related discipline and 2+ years of experience or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills & Experience:
- Experience with statistics (e.g. Cpk, t-test, Linear Regression, MSA, Statistical Process Control) required
- Experience generating, following, and explaining standard operating procedures, BKMs, and FMEAs required
- Experience working on collaborative and cross-functional teams required
- Familiarity with JMP or Minitab (preferred)
