We are looking for an experienced Plant Manager in the Duncan, SC area to join our Smartpress team. You’ll be part of a talented group that collaborates to deliver world-class products to our customers. In this role, you will exhibit and uphold Smartpress’ values and ethics while ensuring the efficient and effective functional management of the custom printing operations in Smartpress’ Large Format and Small Format production facility. You will be responsible for maintaining timely completion of printed materials within precise quality standards, managing vendor partnerships for timeliness, quality and costs of material, resolving elevated customer issues, and focusing on cost control and labor productivity to maximize Smartpress’ profitability. This position is expected to keep abreast of new technology as it relates to new cutting and printing devices. You will also be responsible for ensuring all activities are completed in accordance with ISO standards 14001 and Smartpress’ Environmental Management System while collaborating with all other areas of the production area, as well as project management and account management supporting Smartpress clients.
Shift available: Monday - Friday 6:45 AM - 3:45 PM
A variety of these traits will help land you this job if you have:
- a Bachelor’ s degree in Commercial Art or related field or 8+ years of equivalent work experience with a two-year technical or trade school diploma
- 5 or more years of relevant management experience working in Print Production in a high-volume manufacturing environment

In this position you'll:
- lead, mentor, coach and direct production leaders to meet customers’ requirements and expectations around quality, standards, SOPs, efficiencies and timelines.
- achieve a high level of employee efficiency, engagement and morale through leadership and the use of sound management relative to handling personnel issues/concerns specific to the employees’ work environment.
- ensures Smartpress’ safety standards and protocols are met in accordance with policy and OSHA.
- collaborate with master schedulers and planners to ensure proper resources are available to meet customers’ expected schedules.
- ensure all staff within the production (print) area are trained on the proper use of the equipment and have the opportunity to learn additional responsibilities as needed.
- work with production managers, supervisors and production leads in overseeing the proper recording of labor hours and costs, reviews variances and discusses the impact variances have on the Cost of Goods Sold and gross margin of Smartpress’ income statement.
- maintain an inventory system of all pressroom-related materials and supplies and reviews periodic audit results to the perpetual inventory system noting variances and determining root cause.
- communicate regularly with other departmental directors and staff regarding departmental issues, procedural changes, company/departmental goals & results, etc.
- keep abreast of technical developments that may affect press efficiency and profitability.
- as part of a cross-functional team, you'll advise other business units (e.g. sales, estimators, schedulers) on the capabilities of the production area and current capacity of the pressroom.
- champion and creatively implements continuous improvement techniques and manufacturing best practices to increase production efficiency at the lowest cost possible, while simultaneously driving uncompromising product quality and employee satisfaction.
- maintain a preventative maintenance schedule to ensure all equipment is at its peak performance, including addressing concerns with maintenance and staff to help resolve any issues between preventative care.
- perform miscellaneous projects and complete various tasks as requested by management
