The Joint Overhead Persistent-Infrared (OPIR) Center (JOPC) has an immediate need for a data scientist with full scope experience in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine learning (ML). The data scientist will advise the Assessment, Analysis and Data Development (A2D2) data scientist group on optimal AI/ML interface approaches to model development across a number of big data analytics; designed to manage, interpret and create a data base the future OPIR sensor architecture, in combination with the existing constellation. The Individual will:
- Conduct exploratory data analysis on new sources of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) data, creating discovery opportunities for optimization of AI and ML applications across the enterprise in support of the JOPC.
- Educate customers on issues and solutions, as appropriate throughout the project life cycle.
- Continually research current and emerging ISR capabilities as well as data technologies, proposing changes to continuously improve space operations.
- Create, maintain, and track the design of data pipelines utilized to streamline OPIR data ingestion, scale data streams, and develop predictive analytic products.
- Work with data developers and ML engineering staff to ensure standardized process, scalability with local teams, and monitoring and maintenance of operational metrics.
- Determine what question, if answered, would present the most value to the organization.
- Develop the most valuable data product for data analytics.
- Research and develop statistical learning models for data analysis.
- Communicate results and ideas to senior leader key decision makers.
- Implement new statistical or other mathematical methodologies as needed for specific models or analysis.
- Optimize joint development efforts through appropriate database use and project design.
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Math, or related field
- 5+ years of experience.
- Experience in Python, PyTorch/TensorFlow, and other applicable data science libraries
- Extensive background in data mining and statistical analysis
- Skills developing correlative data models that support descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analytics
- Able to understand various data structures and common methods in data transformation.
- Experience developing in Python, R, and SQL in support of big data analytics, machine learning, and NLP, Neural Networks, and Deep Learning analytics
- Expertise in Cloud technology
- Experience with CI/CD
- Implemented DevSecOps controls (DoD CIO & AF CSO)
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, and experience with cloud-based data services
- Proficient in data security management
- Prefer experience with open platform (Kubernetes/Istio), microservice/service mesh architectures, and leverage event-driven behavior across the entire portfolio
- Competency in Agile Development
- Ability to communicate complex data in a simple, actionable ways
- Ability to visualize data in the most effective way for a given project or study
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, negotiate complex issues, and maintain good working relations
- Ability to work independently and with team members from different backgrounds
Preferred Requirements:
- PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Math, or related field.
- Possess previous Space experience at operational/theater level (e.g. Combatant Command, Joint/Combined Task Force, Component)
- Possess experience in supporting USSPACECOM, AFSPACE, NAVSPACE, MARFORSPACE, or SMDC/ARSPACE operations and/or exercises
- Experience working on classified networks and interfacing with military staffs at the operational and strategic levels
- Machine learning experience and/or Artificial Intelligence experience

Salary Range - Colorado: $115,000-$135,000
