- HYBRID: This position is required to be in the office 2 days per week at our downtown SF Recology offices**
ROLE
This role resides within Recology’s Legal Department on its Compliance Team. You will be working on projects focused within Compliance initiatives. While managing multiple tasks/projects and working with your colleagues, you will also be able to work independently on research for specific business needs.
Reporting to the Director of Compliance, this position entails supporting regulatory and data initiatives, as well as any ad hoc projects within the Compliance team. You will be expected to lead and take on business analysis requirements gathering and project delivery for compliance initiatives. Aside from these tasks, you will also be responsible for interacting with the business daily and providing support activities and communication with senior management. You should also expect to participate and lead compliance-related initiatives as this role requires the individual to be comfortable with corporate compliance and ethics initiatives.
Essential Responsibilities Of – Compliance Specialist
- Leads, supports, and executes Compliance-related initiatives under guidance and direction of Compliance leads and teammates.
- Works with management to provide compliance-related metrics.
- Develops and surmises solutions (business and technical) based on business trends and gaps.
- Be the subject matter expert on compliance-related policies, guidance and initiatives.
- Builds and drafts presentations and key requirements documents for Compliance team and leadership.
- Prepares periodic written reports to summarize the progress of compliance initiatives for our regulators and Board of Directors.
- Maintains and prepares business requirements and project plans for key Compliance projects.
- Bridges communication between the Compliance team and internal partners.
- Processes requests from community partners for corporate donations, which includes analyzing the request to ensure that it complies with legal obligations and policies, collaboration with internal business partners, and thorough documentation.
- Excellent written and verbal skills to create and deliver training and outreach content.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:
- Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent preferred.
- 3+ years related experience preferred.
- Advanced capabilities in Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, including ability to create high-quality PowerPoint files suitable for sharing with senior leaders and use of formulas and tables in Excel.
- Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional (CCEP) or Leadership Professionals in Ethics & Compliance (LPEC) certification, or equivalent, preferred.
- Good understanding of compliance laws and regulations, such as U.S. Sentencing Guidelines Section 8B2.1 (Effective Compliance and Ethics Program), FCPA, and corporate best practices is required.
- Able to lead and manage multiple project initiatives, while providing expertise in other areas when required.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent understanding of how technology applies to a compliance program.
