Position Summary
The Manager of Benefits is responsible for the overall administration of the company’s benefits programs including health and welfare benefits, retirement programs, 401(k), ESOP and paid time off programs. This position will work closely with internal business partners across the organization to continually enhance and improve HAC’s benefits offering for employees and their families, while ensuring programs remain innovative, competitive, financially sustainable, and aligned with strategic business objectives.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Responsible for the administration and compliance for all corporate benefits programs including health and wellness benefits (medical, dental, vision, FSA, HSA), COBRA, disability, life insurance, ESOP, pension, 401(K), equity, and paid time off programs.
- Partner with the broker of record to contract with benefit plan providers for services, recordkeeping, regulatory compliance, and plan administration. In coordination with the broker of record, resolve administrative problems with the carrier representatives and respond to employee concerns.
- Develop and present recommended benefit plan changes to the CHRO.
- Ensure compliance with applicable government regulations. Ensure timeliness and accuracy of required reporting and fee payment for 1095, ACA, and Form 5500s.
- Audit benefit plans for compliance with government regulations. Prepare and facilitate all YTD audits for health and welfare plans, retirement, 401k, and ESOP in coordination with CHRO and external auditors.
- Prepare and communicate information to employees and former employees about the programs, procedures, changes, and government-mandated disclosures.
- Coordinate the resolution of claims, enrollment, and eligibility issues.
- Audit, reconcile and coordinate with finance/ payroll the remittance processes for benefit-related invoices including union related data census reporting and payments.
- Manage annual benefits open enrollment process.
- Oversee leaves of absence and disability programs and processes.
- Maintain all plan documents and benefit records.
- Develop, recommend, and monitor budget allocations for all employee benefits programs.
- Prepare year-end budgets for vacation, holiday, non-pay dollars, and health and welfare.
- Other duties as assigned by the Chief Human Resource Officer.
Supervisory Responsibilities
The Manager of Benefits will directly manage Leave Administrator and Analyst.
Education & Experience
- Requires Bachelor's degree in HR, Business, or related field or equivalent work experience that provides extensive knowledge of fundamental theories, principles, and concepts plus 5 to 7 years of relevant work experience with benefits administration and compliance.
- Advanced knowledge and experience in Excel and Microsoft Office.
- Experience with Paycom, UKG, or ADP preferred.
- Requires experience managing a self-funded health plan and ERISA.
