Job Summary
The Senior Structural Engineer is a senior-level professional responsible for managing and executing complex structural engineering projects. This role combines advanced technical expertise, project management, and client collaboration to design and analyze safe, efficient, and innovative structural systems for a range of applications, including high-rise buildings, bridges, and industrial facilities.
This position serves as a technical leader, mentoring junior staff and driving process improvements to enhance operational efficiency. The role involves overseeing multiple projects, collaborating with clients and contractors, and contributing to strategic growth within the Structural Services division.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage multiple structural engineering projects, ensuring alignment with scope, schedule, and budget.
- Develop project plans, including investigation strategies, design methodologies, and deliverable timelines.
- Identify and mitigate technical and logistical project risks, ensuring smooth execution and client satisfaction.
- Perform detailed structural analysis and design for complex systems, including seismic-resistant structures, long-span bridges, and high-rise buildings.
- Use advanced analysis techniques, such as dynamic response, nonlinear analysis, and finite element modeling.
- Evaluate and integrate innovative materials and technologies, such as prestressed concrete, fiber-reinforced polymers, and mass timber.
- Review and approve structural calculations, drawings, and specifications prepared by junior staff.
- Serve as the primary technical contact for clients, addressing project-specific structural challenges and solutions.
- Prepare and deliver technical presentations to clients and stakeholders, explaining design concepts and recommendations.
- Contribute to business development by supporting proposal writing, identifying new opportunities, and expanding client relationships.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, providing technical guidance and fostering their professional development.
- Lead training sessions on advanced structural analysis methods, codes, and design practices.
- Review and validate work performed by less experienced staff, ensuring accuracy, quality, and compliance with standards.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements within the Structural Services division to enhance project delivery.
- Integrate cutting-edge technologies, such as BIM (Building Information Modeling) and digital twin modeling, into design workflows.
- Collaborate with other divisions to provide interdisciplinary solutions for complex projects
- Ensure all structural designs and recommendations comply with local, state, and federal building codes and regulations.
- Promote and enforce safety protocols during field inspections and construction support activities.

Supervisory Responsibility
- Leads project teams for medium-scale engineering projects.
- Assigns tasks, monitors progress, and provides technical mentorship to junior engineers.
- Reviews and approves work to ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or Structural Engineering; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in structural engineering or related fields.
- Professional Engineer (PE) licensure required.
- Advanced proficiency with structural analysis software (e.g., SAP2000, ETABS, RISA-3D, SAFE).
- Demonstrated experience managing large-scale structural engineering projects.
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Preferred Skills
- Strong analytical skills for complex structural behavior, including seismic and wind analysis.
- Leadership abilities with experience managing multidisciplinary teams and mentoring junior staff.
- Excellent communication skills for technical documentation, client interaction, and presentations.
- Knowledge of emerging materials and methods, such as 3D-printed structures, high-strength steel, and mass timber.
- Certifications such as SE (Structural Engineer) licensure, OSHA 30-Hour Training, or NICET Level IV.
Work Environment
- Primarily office-based with occasional travel to project sites and client meetings.
- May involve exposure to construction site conditions and varying weather.
Pay Transparency
Base compensation is expected to be in the range of $90,000-$150,000 based on skill set and experience.
