The Team You’ll Work With …
As the EHS Specialist, you will be an integral part of our talented Safety team, collaborating to safeguard our people and optimize production efficiency through strategic risk management. You will partner closely with frontline employees and production managers to integrate safety solutions into daily work processes, playing a key role in fostering a culture of shared ownership and psychological workplace safety. This role offers the opportunity to drive measurable, sustainable cultural and systemic improvements in a growing manufacturing working environment. Reporting to the EH&S Director, this position is located in Spokane, WA (On-site). Our culture thrives on professional development, ongoing training, and opportunities for growth within the organization. This is a salary position and pays $65,000-$90,000.

- Lead with Partnership: Foster psychological safety by leading incident investigations with a focus on system learning, building genuine trust that encourages transparent reporting.

Executive Influence & Advocacy: Translate complex EHS data and findings into clear, compelling business cases for senior leadership, securing necessary resources for critical safety and environmental projects.

Culture Architect: Proactively champion a just culture where accountability is balanced with systemic learning, empowering employees at all levels to act as safety leaders and innovators.

Strategic Risk Reduction: Utilize data and advanced Root Cause Analysis (RCA) to diagnose and systematically solve underlying EHS risks, moving beyond compliance checklists.

Sustainable Implementation: Develop and champion the implementation of long-term engineering controls and systematic process improvements over temporary administrative fixes.

Cross-Functional Mobilization: Lead and mentor cross-functional safety committees and working groups, driving alignment and shared ownership of EHS goals across Operations, Engineering, and Management teams.

Program Standardization: Manage, own, and drive momentum for key EHS initiatives that have stalled, such as the prescription safety glass program or LOTO standardization.

Operational Integration: Partner with production supervisors and operators to co-design EHS solutions that are practical, safe, and seamlessly integrated into the manufacturing workflow.

Change Management Mastery: Design and execute effective change management strategies for new EHS policies and equipment introductions, ensuring high adoption rates and minimal disruption to production efficiency.
What We Look For in You …

- Manufacturing Experience: Minimum of 3+ years of dedicated EHS experience within a manufacturing or industrial setting.
- Cultural Leader: Views EHS as a service function that enables production and possesses the interpersonal skills to lead with empathy and build cooperative relationships on the floor.
- Professional Maturity: Possesses the credibility and experience to negotiate conflicting priorities, knowing when to stand firm on compliance and when to collaborate for the best outcome.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong foundation in relevant EHS regulations (e.g., L&I, NFPA, IH, EPA) and proven success in implementing and managing core EHS programs.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Root Cause Analysis methodologies (e.g., 5-Why, Fishbone), EHS management systems, and data analysis for trending incidents.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional communication, influencing, active listening, and problem-solving abilities.

Injury Metrics Management: Proven ability to analyze and drive improvements in key safety metrics, including Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR), Days Away, Restricted, or Transferred (DART) rate, and First Aid Case Rate.

Industrial Hygiene (IH) Data Interpretation: Deep understanding of IH principles, including monitoring techniques and interpreting data related to airborne contaminants (e.g., crystalline silica, dust), noise exposure, and chemical hazard communication (SDS management), with demonstrated success in implementing controls to meet Permissible Exposure Limits (PELs).

Process Safety Management (PSM)/Risk Assessment: Proficiency in conducting and leading formal risk assessment methodologies, such as Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), and/or Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), translating findings into prioritized corrective actions.

Machine Guarding & Control of Hazardous Energy: Expert knowledge of OSHA 1910 Subpart O (Machine Guarding) and proven experience designing and validating Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, specifically targeting high-risk machinery like presses, kilns, and conveyors to meet ANSI Z244.1 standards.
