How You’ll Make An Impact
We are seeking as-needed Mid-Level environmental field technicians to conduct field work in California and surrounding states. Field efforts will be focused on conducting surveys for biological resources under the direction of a field supervisor and monitoring environmental sensitive areas during preconstruction and construction phases. Candidates that have experience working outdoors, a degree in environmental studies and interested in environmental survey experience are highly encouraged to apply. Prior field experience is preferred but not necessary.
Duties And Responsibilities
- Ability to tolerate hot temperatures and adverse weather conditions.
- Ability to walk long distances (between 1-10 miles) through full sun and hot temperatures.
- Work with construction crews and environmental resource leads to document compliance levels related to environmental regulations.
- Ability to work collaboratively with construction personnel and regulatory personnel to develop solutions while implementing permit conditions.
- Record and take notes of any observations on a Dudek platform and electronic device (smartphone/tablet) to be used for reporting purposes
- Follow all Dudek and construction site safety protocols
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or in-progress), Associate’s degree, or commensurate years of experience in environmental sciences or other related field.
- Must demonstrate solid written and verbal communication skills, as well as strong time management skills.
- Flexibility with weather and survey conditions that can change rapidly in the field, and an understanding that it may affect how many hours can be surveyed in a day, week, or month.
- Strong work ethic, positive attitude, and self-motivated with an interest to learn and grow.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and have active personal automobile liability insurance by the first day of employment
Preferred Qualifications
- Understanding of environmental regulations
- Qualified biologist to survey and monitor for special-status wildlife and plant species
- Previous approvals from CDFW and/or USFWS as a project-approved biological monitor or designated biologist.
- Proficient in construction monitoring and inspection experience
- Proficient in performing nesting bird surveys
- Proficient in noise monitoring
- Proficient in third-party oversight monitoring
- Certifications in sediment and erosion control
- Experience conducting hazardous materials inspections
- Experience with GPS/GIS mobile applications (ArcField Maps, ESRI, ArcMap)
- Experience with Survey123
Compensation: $35.00-45.00/hourly*
- Final agreed-upon compensation will be based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, an individual’s related experience, education, certifications, skills, and work location. Successful candidates must pass a pre-employment drug test and background check prior to beginning employment.
Working Conditions
- This job operates in an outdoor or office-based environment and this role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, etc.
- This job requires project site visits, based outdoors which can include excessive noise, uneven walking surfaces, extreme weather, and moving vehicles and equipment.
Physical Requirements
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. This job requires the following:
- Working on a computer, sitting, or standing for long periods of time in an office or remote office setting.
- Employees must be capable of bending, squatting, climbing ladders, and lifting up to 35 lbs. unassisted; 50lbs in a team lift (two or more employees).
- Attending meetings, both in person and virtually, and speaking on the phone with peers, clients, etc.
- Specific vision abilities, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Outdoor activity may involve walking/trekking in uneven terrain over long distances in extreme weather conditions for extended periods of time.
