What we are looking for
SCS Engineers is looking for a highly technical, client‑facing Seller/Doer to lead early‑stage power generation pursuits, with a focus on simple‑cycle and combined‑cycle gas turbine plants and reciprocating engine plants. This role sits at the intersection of business development, conceptual engineering, and techno‑economic analysis. You should be a systems thinker—someone who can speak fluently with clients about how the entire plant works, not just the gas turbine. You will develop conceptual plant designs, evaluate multiple configurations and cost scenarios, and clearly communicate tradeoffs related to performance, permitting, schedule, and cost. Your work will directly shape project strategy and be handed off to detailed design teams once projects advance. This is a true seller/doer role: you will help originate opportunities, build client trust through technical credibility, and deliver real engineering value in the front end of projects. Prefreence is for you to be hybrid in our Long Beach Headquarters. Hybrid out of another SCS office or remote might be considered.
How you can make an impact
Client Engagement & Business Development
- Serve as a technical advisor and trusted partner to clients evaluating new power generation assets or expansions.
- Lead and support early‑stage pursuit activities, including feasibility studies, concept screening, and pre‑FEED engagements.
- Participate in client meetings, workshops, and proposal interviews; communicate complex technical concepts in a clear, conversational, and commercially relevant manner.
- Collaborate with business development teams to shape pursuit strategy, scope, and win themes.
Conceptual & Systems‑Level Engineering
- Develop conceptual designs for:
- Simple‑cycle gas turbine plants
- Combined‑cycle power plants (GT, HRSG, steam turbine, balance of plant)
- Define overall plant configuration, major equipment selection, heat and mass balance assumptions, and high‑level layouts suitable for handoff to detailed design teams.
- Evaluate and integrate full‑plant systems, including:
- Fuel gas conditioning, treatment, and compression
- Combustion turbine and auxiliary systems
- HRSGs, steam cycle, and cooling systems
- Exhaust gas handling and emissions control technologies (e.g., SCR, oxidation catalysts)
- Electrical systems, substations, and grid interconnection
- Gas and electrical utility interconnections and tie‑ins
- Coordinate with internal discipline leads to validate assumptions and ensure concepts are technically sound and execution‑ready.
Techno‑Economic & Cost Modeling
- Develop order‑of‑magnitude and conceptual‑level cost models for multiple client scenarios, including:
- Technology selection alternatives
- Capacity, efficiency, and redundancy tradeoffs
- Fuel supply and compression options
- Environmental control strategies
- Phasing or modular deployment concepts
- Support evaluation of CAPEX, OPEX, schedule, and risk drivers to inform client decision‑making.
- Clearly explain cost and performance sensitivities to non‑technical and executive stakeholders.
Permitting & Development Support
- Provide high‑level guidance on air permitting and environmental considerations, including emissions drivers and regulatory constraints that influence plant configuration.
- Identify permitting, interconnection, or siting risks early and incorporate them into conceptual designs and schedules.
- Support development‑stage planning by aligning technical concepts with regulatory and utility requirements.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related engineering major required.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in power generation, energy infrastructure, or related heavy industrial systems required.
- Demonstrated experience with gas turbine and combined‑cycle power plant concepts, beyond single‑equipment focus.
- Strong understanding of fuel systems, balance of plant, emissions control, electrical systems, and utility interconnection.
- Experience developing conceptual designs, feasibility studies, or pre‑FEED deliverables.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively with clients and internal teams at multiple levels.
Preferred Experience
- Prior experience in a seller/doer, consulting, EPC, or owner’s engineer environment.
- Familiarity with OEM technologies (e.g., major gas turbine platforms) and their system‑level implications.
- Experience supporting proposals, pursuits, or early‑stage project development.
- Exposure to air permitting processes and regulatory frameworks for power generation projects.
Core Competencies
- Systems‑level thinking – understands how all plant components interact
- Client‑facing credibility – comfortable leading technical conversations
- Commercial awareness – balances performance, cost, risk, and schedule
- Clear communicator – explains complex ideas simply and persuasively
- Collaborative mindset – works seamlessly with engineering, estimating, and BD teams
Pay Range
USD $120,000.00 - USD $160,000.00 /Yr.
