SUMMARY: The position of Buyer I was established to perform purchasing activities necessary to ensure the timely delivery of specified materials and services for Baker Electric jobs at competitive pricing. The Buyer I is an entry-level procurement role that will assist in purchasing materials, supplies and services at the most favorable terms. This is a non-exempt position and individual contributor.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Maintain the purchasing process by receiving, preparing, verifying, filing, logging, and forwarding purchase orders.
- Coordinate with suppliers concerning late deliveries.
- Verify and approve supplier bills for payment.
- Ensure that all purchase orders committed are entered within the accounting software within the close of the next business day.
- Purchase electrical materials and construction supplies within budget guidelines, negotiated pricing levels, services, and terms.
- Receive material estimates, review quotes and coordinate with the Director of Procurement to secure most competitive bids timely.
- Identifies problems and considers potential solutions.
- Effectively partner and communicate with Project Engineers, Project Managers and Field personnel to support the successful completion of the project.
- Assist with submittals/cut-sheets as required by contract and as directed by Project Managers.
- Review job specifications and copy the appropriate submittal documents from Purchasing files and vendor catalogs.
- Ensure all purchase orders are properly coded to the appropriate job number and job cost code.
- Review accuracy of ordered material versus invoiced.
- Assist with invoice issues.
- Provide correct job cost coding for erroneous or missing cost codes on purchased materials.
- Coordinate and schedule material return to distributors or warehouse from completed projects.
- Process Material Return forms and enter return purchase orders; and validate credits were applied to the job.
- Ensure outstanding material returns are reviewed weekly. Contact Foremen as necessary to determine pick-up status and communicate to Director of Procurement.
- Review suppliers’ credits to ensure there have been no excessive restocking fees and coordinate with the Director of Procurement for approval.
- Maintain knowledge of Baker Values and Strategic Plans.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Procurement.
Experience, Education
- 1-3 years of experience in the electrical distribution, purchasing or related background.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required
- Valid CA Driver’s License is required.
