Job Profile Summary
The Technician II, OSP Engineering supports the Engineering team in the planning, design, and implementation of telecommunications infrastructure. This role contributes to long-range planning, system design, forecasting, budgeting, project coordination, and inspection activities. Key areas of focus include GIS and mapping systems, Outside Plant (OSP) design and construction, fixed wireless radio, Metro Ethernet, and DSL technologies. This position may also provide guidance and mentorship to Technician I team members on advanced tasks.
Duties and Responsibilities (included but not limited to):
- Ensure compliance with Rural Utilities Service (RUS) and industry standards by staking lines for new construction and system modifications; effectively utilize Trimble GIS field units.
- Prepare and develop network and construction drawings for use by construction teams and equipment installers.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to review and contribute to the annual capital budget.
- Coordinate and secure necessary permits, easements, and rights-of-way (ROW).
- Maintain accurate engineering records, including organizing staking sheets, posting work orders, and updating system data.
- Generate engineering reports, monitor the health and accuracy of mapping systems, and manage GIS data uploads and system configurations.
- Support and assist internal users of mapping systems by setting parameters aligned with company services.
- Oversee contractor access to mapping platforms and ensure data accuracy and completeness.
- Create technical drawings and visual materials for presentations, as needed.
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum Years Experience: 2 - 4 Yrs
- Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience

- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and Windows-based systems
- Experience with GIS and mapping software tools
- Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities

- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and reporting skills
- Ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism and empathy
- Foundational understanding of telecommunications engineering and construction practices
- Knowledge of FTTH, FTTB, and FTTN design and implementation
- Understanding of fiber and copper network capabilities and plant record-keeping
- Familiarity with GIS data collection, spatial data, and mapping systems
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents (e.g., work orders, staking sheets, schematics, specifications)
- Basic knowledge of database principles
- Familiarity with geospatial data formats, coordinate systems, and GPS technologies
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of telecommunications infrastructure and industry terminology
- Experience with rural telecommunications (wireless and wireline technologies)
- Understanding of rural broadband funding programs and requirements
- Familiarity with tribal land use and right-of-way processes
- Geographic knowledge of rural America
- 2+ years of experience with both fiber and copper plant
- 4+ years of telecommunications or technical experience
- Exposure to AI or emerging technologies
- Residency in New Mexico
