We are looking for a senior-level student or recent graduate from an accredited design program with an emphasis on Industrial Design, Product Design, Furniture Design, or a similar discipline. You will gain experience within Room & Board’s Merchandising & Design (M&D) team and will support designers in concept development, CAD modeling, product evaluation, and presentation creation.

Hybrid office schedule (3 days in office, Tuesday-Thursday). No fully remote applicants.
You will share your talents as a Design Intern in the following ways:
Evaluate a product category to identify previously unseen design opportunities, considering style, price, and material. This includes digital research and in-person competitive shopping.
Participate in concept ideation and brainstorming, presenting multiple product opportunities through physical or digital sketches.
Refine early concepts into fully detailed product specifications and CAD proposals, collaborating with the M&D team to create actionable hand-off documents for vendor partners.
Create presentation materials for internal communication and design reviews.
If time allows, participate in reviewing initial prototypes to support refinement and finalization.
Other potential responsibilities (depending on technical skill set):
Create CAD models of accessory items for use in floor planning tools.
Develop universal 3D rendering environments in KeyShot for team-wide use.
Assist in the creation of instruction documentation.
Contribute to sample reviews and evaluation of prototypes and digital concepts across categories.
Additional educational opportunities:
Potential visits to local vendor partners such as Bell, Hennepin Made, or Shell Lake.
Tour of the Otsego warehouse.
Ride-along with delivery associates to understand product handling and customer experience.
Edina showroom walk-through with M&D partners.
One-on-one conversations with key partners across the business to gain a holistic understanding of operations.
You will bring the following experiences & qualifications as a Design Intern:
Senior or recent graduate from a university with an accredited design program emphasizing Industrial Design, Product Design, Furniture Design, or similar.
Ability to work a hybrid or full-time in-office schedule, Monday–Friday, 40 hours per week.
Proficiency in SolidWorks, KeyShot, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
Strong visual communication skills, attention to detail, and comfort presenting ideas in a collaborative environment.
