The Mechanical Engineer in the Oil & Gas Division will specialize in designing, developing, and maintaining mechanical systems and machinery used in the oil and gas industry. They will ensure that all equipment adheres to industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental policies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and analyze mechanical systems and equipment for oil and gas extraction and processing.
- Oversee the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment such as pumps, compressors, and turbines.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize the performance of mechanical systems.
- Conduct risk assessments and ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Prepare technical documentation, including design specifications, maintenance manuals, and project reports.
- Provide technical support and guidance during project planning and execution phases.
- Stay abreast of technological advancements and implement innovative solutions to enhance efficiency and sustainability.
Provides technical assistance and guidance for multi-site/phase due diligence, design, development, building, testing, and inspecting of mechanical systems on infrastructure, building, and construction projects in the public and private sector. Responsibilities include the research, design, concept development, planning, installation, operation, maintenance, and optimal integration of automatic temperature control, air distribution, hydronic, and plumbing systems, equipment and processes. Substantiates reports and documentation regarding installation, construction, and operation specifications. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• Determine well-defined methods for collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, surveys, blueprints, schematics, data, technical drawings, computer-generated reports, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction.
• Perform professional mechanical engineering work and conduct research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, equipment, resources, building, infrastructure, usage, and mechanical systems to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits.
• Develop construction and installation plans, specifications, and cost estimates; preparing construction safety and phasing plans, and updating infrastructure layout plans that require coordination with owners, other disciplines, sub-consultants, and clients.
• Incorporate advanced technology, modeling techniques, concept development, design requirements, load calculations, and operating strategies to account for the proper installation and functioning of equipment and systems according to specifications; implementing sustainable solutions with mechanical engineering design standards.
• Verify site characteristics and provide technical assistance on various environmental, design, and construction issues relating to automatic temperature control systems and specifications, air distribution (supply, return, exhaust), hydronic systems (chilled water, heating water, etc), and plumbing systems (domestic water, waste, vent, storm, etc.).
• Work as an individual or as part of a cross-functional team of engineers, planners, and scientific professionals to execute project work on multiple concurrent projects, assist with laying out installation of equipment, calculating costs and quantities of material/equipment/labor, and ensuring project work conforms with specifications, permit applications, schematics, compliance documentation, and regulatory and technical analysis memos. • Prepare data and visualizations such as tables, charts, accurate reports, sketches, calculations, technical drawings, spreadsheets, and illustrations for the interpretation or presentation of data, findings, or analyses.
• Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements, statistical analysis, and reporting.
• Assist with development and scoping of medium-sized projects.
• Provide guidance and training to entry-level engineers.
• Prepare technical reports and presentations that explain research, findings, and recommendations to improve, prevent, control, restore, or address design and/or construction issues or opportunities.
• Assist in the analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of data obtained during field investigations, offering input with developing action plans for moderate- to high-level risk installation, equipment operations, and/or mitigation activities.
• Project management experience with small to mid-level projects including tracking hours and expenses for project work.
• Prepare and implement site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
• Comply with regulatory requirements pertaining to the data integrity, documentation, procedures, training, monitoring systems, and record compliance and retention.
• Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner.
• Remain current in latest mechanical engineering techniques and practices.
• Work collaboratively with other engineers and planners on projects with building and infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, and locally funded improvement and development projects.
• Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and adhere to professional conduct and KLJ’s policies and procedures.
• Ability to recognize hazards in the workplace and take appropriate action.
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or closely related discipline.
• Master’s Degree is preferred.
• 5 to 7 years of relevant post education experience in engineering and prior mechanical design experience.
• Professional Engineering License required.
• Proficient knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to project work-related issues.
• Experience with building and infrastructure planning, design, and construction management; including active involvement in a variety of rehabilitation and new design projects.
• Working knowledge with process and concepts for reducing and eliminating the use or generation of hazardous substances/greenhouse gas.
• Working knowledge of relevant mechanical system and construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
• Ability to make technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications, and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.
• Ability to plan and conduct inspections and investigations on various aspects of the construction and design of facilities, structures and systems, applying applicable regulations and policies.
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
• Highly capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
• Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
• Proficiency with technical writing, office automation, discipline-specific design software (i.e., AutoCAD, CAM), technology, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
• Developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, load calculations, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
• Ability to assertively direct others in the field such as subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
• Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical work week.
• Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
