Corporate Controller

SC&H is focusing on identifying our next great hire within the finance team as our Corporate Controller approaches her retirement. The Controller will report directly to our CFO, in a highly visible and key leadership position within the finance organization. The Controller will be responsible for enhancing our accounting, month end close processes, day to day transactional activity (AR and AP) and controls as we pursue both organic and inorganic growth while investing in our finance function. SC&H provides a wide range of offerings within a diverse professional services firm; this role will work across firm leadership.

With three direct reports and an extended total staff of four, the successful candidate with be hands-on, thoughtful and inspiring leader that will focus on positive change in the financial organization with the goal of bringing the accounting organization to a best-in-class standard promoting automation and efficiency without losing sight of effectiveness.

Given the visibility of this role, this position requires four days minimum in office primarily in our Sparks, MD Headquarters. No remote candidates will be considered.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Lead the accounting function including timely & compliant reporting, internal controls, and cash management activities.
Direct and maintain best-in-class department transactional and reporting processes by establishing delivery dates, exceeding timelines, and services our internal clients.
Responsible for setting and enforcing SC&H’s accounting policy and control framework, as well as developing and managing relationship within non-finance functions to achieve best-in-class practices.
Lead Record to Report, Procure to Pay and Payroll cycles within the accounting space.
Prepare, analyze, and reconcile all balance sheet accounts each month identifying potential adjustments and socializing those impacts before taking to our ledger.
Aid in SC&H M&A agenda, including diligence and integration as warranted.
Builds and maintains strong relationships with members of the finance team and the business partners that we support. Seeks feedback and improves performance to ensure we are driving the standards of excellence.
Hire, develop, mentor, and lead a team of accounting professionals.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in accounting is required.
A CPA certification is required.
MBA, equivalent graduate degree, or advanced certification highly preferred.

Experience:

Ten plus years of experience in financial reporting, accounting and/or audit services.
Strong financial acumen with ability to influence the organization at a time of change.
Demonstrated proficiency with concepts, practices, and procedures of accounting, controls, and process improvements.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; effectively manage at all levels of the organization.
Excellent working knowledge of Excel, Sage Intacct, UKG and banking platforms.

Ability to work onsite and participate in interactive onsite meetings on a regular and predictable basis.
Capability and desire to work in a growing Firm and have the strategic vision to scale the Corporate Accounting Team.
