Overview: We are seeking a skilled and motivated Data Engineer to join USSPACECOM J6 and contribute to the development and maintenance of our data infrastructure. As a Data Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing, building, and optimizing data pipelines, ensuring the efficient and reliable flow of data from various sources to our data storage and processing systems. Your expertise will enable us to extract valuable insights from large datasets and support data-driven decision-making across the command.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, analysts, network engineers, and software engineers to understand data requirements and develop scalable data solutions.
- Develop, maintain, and optimize ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to ensure the timely and accurate movement of data from source systems to data warehouses and other storage solutions.
- Design and implement data models, schemas, and structures that facilitate efficient querying and analysis.
- Ensure data quality and integrity by implementing data validation, cleansing, and transformation processes.
- Monitor and troubleshoot data pipelines, identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks, errors, and inconsistencies.
- Explore and implement new technologies, tools, and best practices in data engineering to enhance data processing efficiency and scalability.
- Collaborate in the design and implementation of data security and privacy measures to protect sensitive information.
- Document data pipeline architecture, processes, and procedures for reference and knowledge sharing.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in data engineering, incorporating relevant innovations into our practices.
- Bachelor's or advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience.
- Proven experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role, with a strong track record of designing and implementing complex data pipelines.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, Matlab, or Bash for data processing and scripting.
- Experience working with big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, or similar frameworks.
- Solid understanding of SQL and NoSQL databases, data warehousing concepts, and data modeling principles.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, and experience with cloud-based data services.
- Strong knowledge of ETL tools and frameworks.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience with data orchestration and workflow management tools is a plus.
- Understanding of DevOps principles and practices related to data engineering is a plus.

Salary Range - Colorado: $115,000-$135,000
