Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly experienced Director of Procurement with over 10 years of expertise in procurement, specifically within the construction or mechanical contracting industry. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of managing large-scale purchases of materials related to plumbing, HVAC, piping, sheet metal, and electrical systems. This role requires a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of consolidating buying power, fostering strong supplier relationships, and leading a team to achieve procurement goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Procurement: Lead the procurement process for large quantities of construction materials, including plumbing, HVAC, piping, sheet metal, and electrical components. Ensure that all materials meet quality standards and are sourced at competitive prices.
- Supplier Relationship Management: Develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and vendors to secure the best terms, pricing, and service levels. Negotiate contracts and agreements that align with the company's objectives.
- Buying Power Consolidation: Identify opportunities to consolidate purchasing activities across projects to leverage buying power and achieve cost savings. Implement strategies that optimize the procurement process and reduce expenses.
- Team Leadership: Manage, mentor, and develop a team of purchasing professionals. Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture within the procurement department.
- Cost Control: Monitor and analyze market trends, material costs, and supplier performance to ensure cost-effective procurement. Implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising on quality.
- Inventory Management: Oversee inventory levels to ensure materials are available for projects as needed while minimizing excess stock. Collaborate with project managers to forecast material requirements and prevent delays.
- Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure all procurement activities comply with company policies, industry regulations, and ethical standards. Mitigate risks associated with supplier relationships and material sourcing.
- Reporting and Analytics: Provide regular reports on purchasing activities, cost savings, supplier performance, and team achievements to senior management. Utilize data-driven insights to inform decision-making and continuous improvement.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Certified Purchasing Professional (CPP) certification is preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in purchasing, with a focus on construction or mechanical contracting industries.
- Proven experience in procurement of materials such as plumbing, HVAC, piping, sheet metal, and electrical components.
- Strong negotiation skills and experience in building and maintaining supplier relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to consolidate buying power and achieve cost savings.
- Experience managing and developing a team of purchasing professionals.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in procurement software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make informed decisions.
Working Conditions:
- Office-based with occasional visits to job sites, suppliers, and vendor locations.
- Some travel may be required for supplier meetings and industry events.
