S&ME is looking for an eager and dedicated full-time Construction Materials Engineering Technician to join our team in Knoxville, Tennessee.
About the Role:
Embrace the Construction Materials Engineering Technician role and become a vital force for change! Conducting daily field testing and observations of construction materials ensures strict adherence to industry standards and project specifications. Your involvement spans the entire construction process, meticulously documenting the correct placement and utilization of soil, concrete, rebar, asphalt, aggregate, and other essential building materials. It is our job to ensure it is "built right"; at S&ME we take that responsibility very seriously.
- Reviewing plans and specifications: Verify alignment with project goals before conducting on-site inspections.
- On-Site Activity Logging: Maintain detailed records of observations and test results during project execution.
- Daily Use of Management Tools: Utilize Metafield® or other systems for efficient data handling and coordination.
- Equipment Calibration: Ensure all field and lab instruments meet industry standards for accuracy and reliability.
- Special Inspection Tasks: Follow IBC guidelines to perform thorough quality checks.
- Regular Communication: Engage with management, contractors, and clients to ensure transparency and provide progress updates.
What You Bring:
- You have a High School diploma/GED
- You have a minimum of 5 years of experience in construction testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt materials
- You have Two or More Active Certification(s):
- American Concrete Institute (ACI): Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician - NICET: Construction Materials Testing (Asphalt, Concrete, Soils) - International Code Council (ICC): Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils) - DOT specific in the fields of Aggregate, Density, Asphalt, and Concrete
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as:
- Working outdoors in varying weather conditions outside normal business hours, as needed
- Standing up to 8 hours a day, up to 12 hours on occasion
- Walking over rough and uneven terrain, maneuvering field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow
- Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
- Traveling out-of-town and possibly overnight for assignments as needed
