Overview

AVIAN is seeking a Senior Communication Strategist to support the Volpe Center in Cambridge, MA. The Senior Communication Strategist plays a crucial role in shaping and executing communication strategies for our organization. This position requires a deep understanding of federal processes, technical information, and the ability to navigate complex governmental ecosystems.

Responsibilities

Strategic Thinking: Ability to develop, implement and maintain long-term communication plans aligned with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) program objectives.
Technical Aptitude: Proficiency in understanding and explaining technical processes and regulations.
Federal Government Knowledge: In-depth understanding of federal agency operations, policies, and stakeholders.
Relationship Management: Experience in building and maintaining relationships with diverse stakeholders.
Project Management: Ability to adapt to dynamic priorities, manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
Content Development: Produce and deliver effective internal and external stakeholder communication content using the Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office Suite as well as other current industry software.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in strategic communications, preferably within the federal government sector.
Demonstrated ability to translate technical information into accessible content for various stakeholders.
Strong analytical skills and the capacity to understand complex regulatory frameworks.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Candidate must be a flexible team player and self-starter possessing excellent organizational skills. The ideal individual will have the ability to function in a team environment or autonomously, manage competing priorities, and be able to meet critical project schedules.

Desired Experience:

- Prior work experience with the Department of Transportation or other federal agencies.
- Experience in crisis communication and reputation management.

Due to the sensitivity of customer-related requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required.
