Brown and Caldwell is looking for an entry level engineer to join our Technical Services organization in Nashville, TN. Detailed Description:
The preferred candidate will have a passion for providing clients with creative technical solutions to address their environmental challenges. This position offers a unique chance for rising professionals (RPs) to deepen their understanding of technical treatability, analytical methodologies, and QA/QC requirements on projects related to their areas of interest. This position would be a transfer into Technical Services and a new supervisor would be assigned. The aim is to immerse them in Treatability Testing capabilities, thereby enhancing their technical knowledge relevant to their field. After a period of 2-3 years, they would then return to their business unit (BU), equipped with a wealth of technical knowledge and expertise that could significantly accelerate their career growth and increase their technical contribution to pursuits and projects. Project assignments will be dynamically allocated based on project needs and priorities, shifting between laboratory assignments and BU assignments as necessary based on priorities.
Job responsibilities are as follows:
- Will serve as the primary scientist/engineer to lead and/or implement Research and Innovation (R&I) studies related to their relevant technical practice.
- Support Treatability Laboratory studies by implementing and/or leading laboratory testing following standard operating procedures and methods.
- Perform calculations in the areas of environmental engineering.
- Work with vendors in close relationship with practices on different treatment technologies to evaluate technical feasibility and develop cost estimates for application.
- Assist in the development and preparation of technical documents including work plans, feasibility studies, O&M Manuals, and basis of design reports.
- Support the development of engineering plans, specifications, design details, and budgetary cost estimates.
- Perform field work, troubleshooting, pilot studies, and construction project support.
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in engineering (Civil, Environmental, Chemical, Mechanical), Environmental Science, Chemistry, or Biology is required.
- Involved in BC’s relevant technical practices including Drinking Water, Reuse, Industrial Water, Wastewater, Solids & Energy, and Site Investigation and Remediation/Solid Waste.
- Foundational knowledge of water and wastewater treatment principles.
- Good technical skills with the ability to articulate ideas and concepts both visually and contextually.
- Strong verbal/written communication skills and ability to work well independently and in team environments.
- Candidate must be willing and able to travel, up to 10% of the time.
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record may be required.
- Must be willing to work in the field, potentially for extended periods of time, and able to perform physically demanding work (see requirements below)
- Flexibility to work for extended hours and on weekends as needed for treatability studies.
- Ability to work for short periods of time in extreme temperatures including heat and cold.
- Ability to wear required safety equipment in the laboratory and at project sites including hard hats, steel toed boots (or other approved toe protection), safety glasses, etc.
- Ability to stand for several hours observing and documenting field conditions or critical construction operations.
- Ability to walk slowly around sites of varying size that may have areas of uneven, muddy, and/or rocky ground to perform inspections and take photographs.
- Ability to lift objects less than 30 pounds.
- Ability to remain alert and vigilant while working around construction equipment and be able to walk swiftly for a short distance to clear an area where a potential hazard is identified.
- Ability to climb stairs (2-3 flights) or ladders (up to 24 ft typically) to access structures for visual inspection.
Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee’s primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.
