Construction Materials Engineering Technician

S&ME is looking for an eager and dedicated full-time Construction Materials Engineering Technician to join our Construction Services team in Nashville, Tennessee.
About the Role:
As a Construction Materials Engineering Technician, you'll join a team that values safety, integrity, and growth. Your day-to-day will involve reviewing construction material project plans, recording observations and test results, and using Metafield® to keep data organized. You'll maintain field and laboratory equipment to industry standards, perform inspections of construction materials according to the International Building Code (IBC), and communicate effectively with management, contractors, and clients to ensure project success. While the job involves primarily outdoor work, you'll get the thrill of watching construction projects come to life and knowing you played a part in it.
About You:
- You have a high school diploma/GED
- You have a minimum of 2 years of experience in construction testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt materials OR 1 year of related experience plus vocational training OR an associate degree in a related field with no experience
- You have effective communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language
- You have math skills with a basic understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure
- You are able to complete data entry into multiple software applications on a smart device
- You have (1)one or more active certifications:
- American Concrete Institute (ACI): Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician
- DOT Certifications in the fields of Aggregate, Conventional Density, Asphalt, and Concrete
Are You Willing and Able to:
Perform the physical demands of the position with the use of company-provide Personal Protective Equipment such as:
- Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions
- Walking over rough and uneven terrain
- Standing up to 8 hours a day, up to 12 hours on occasion
- Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
- Maneuver field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground and around active construction sites
- Traveling out-of-town (typically overnight) for assignments as necessary
- Working outside of normal business hours when necessary
