SUMMARY: As the Pre-Construction Manager – Site/Civil at Baker Electric, you will play a critical role in project pursuits as well as the successful planning and execution of our Utility Scale Solar and Battery Energy Storage (BESS) projects. Your expertise will contribute to the seamless integration of civil construction components into our projects, ensuring their timely completion, within budget, and in compliance with industry standards.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Pre-Construction and Estimating teams during the preconstruction phase to provide input on project budgeting, estimating, and feasibility analysis.
- Lead and oversee the development of accurate and detailed cost estimates for civil construction components of Utility Scale Solar and BESS projects.
- Provide conceptual engineering support, optimizing civil design elements and proposing solutions to ensure feasibility and cost-effectiveness for total project electrical scopes.
- Engage in constructability reviews, identifying potential challenges and proposing strategies to mitigate risks during the project planning phase.
- Collaborate closely with subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers to ensure competitive pricing and availability of civil construction resources.
- Facilitate and schedule kickoff meetings with subcontractors, project management, pre-con, and field management prior to subcontract award, design kickoff and commencement of work as appropriate for identified projects.
- Provide oversight and management of civil / general engineering activities during the project engineering phase.
- Collaborate with external engineering firms, subcontractors and internal teams to ensure civil design adherence to project specifications, codes, and industry standards.
- Review and approve civil engineering deliverables, ensuring accuracy and alignment with project requirements.
- Offer technical guidance and solutions to address unforeseen challenges that may arise during the engineering phase.
- Collaborate with project managers and field teams during the construction phase, offering technical support for civil construction activities.
- Participate in regular site visits and assessments to ensure the implementation of civil design and construction plans.
- Support project operations by providing technical insights and guidance related to civil construction aspects of the projects.
- Work to establish accurate excavation/civil production rates to use in estimates and by operational teams by work type, project type, location and other factors.
Experience, Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree is a plus.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in Civil Project Management and Estimating, ideally within the solar or energy storage industry.
- Strong understanding of civil engineering principles, construction methods, and materials, specifically in utility scale solar and BESS projects.
- Proven experience in project budgeting, estimating, and feasibility analysis.
- Proficiency in using construction estimation software and project management tools.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Familiarity with California building codes, regulations, and permitting processes.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and thrive in a fast-paced work environment.
- Professional certifications (e.g., PE, PMP) are a plus.

The starting salary for this opportunity range is listed. Other rewards may include annual bonus eligibility based on company and individual performance, short- and long-term incentives, and program-specific awards.
