Brown and Caldwell has a unique development opportunity for a Mid-Level Engineer / Project Manager with a desire to apply and develop their project management, technical engineering, leadership, and business development skills. The successful candidate will be responsible for project engineering and/or managing the design of municipal wastewater and water infrastructure and maintaining and enhancing relationships with existing clients.
This position will be based in our Alexandria, VA office and will include frequent travel to client and field project sites throughout the DC Metro region.
Detailed Description:
In this role, you will work as a project manager and with other team leads locally and nationally to execute work involving conventional types of civil engineering principals and other related activities for conveyance infrastructure projects. You will lead and support a variety of projects that may include planning, evaluation, design, and construction related activities for wastewater, water, and stormwater conveyance systems. We are looking for candidates who have a passion for the environment, meeting new people, and desire to learn and grow from seasoned professionals in a team environment. Other responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Serve as the Project Manager for a variety of conveyance infrastructure projects, including providing civil engineering support for a variety of projects which may include planning, evaluation, design, and construction related activities for wastewater, water, and stormwater conveyance systems.
- Prepare pipeline asset condition assessments.
- Lead the evaluation of existing service area utility assets, and develop corresponding recommendations for rehabilitation or replacement.
- Lead and/or provide support in the design of the extension, rehabilitation, or replacement of water and wastewater buried infrastructure.
- Coordinate and assist with environmental studies, permitting, alternatives analyses, and other technical deliverables.
- Utilize internal project management tools and resources.
- Work on engineering designs preparing reports, construction plans, specifications, calculations, equipment selection, and cost estimates for various projects
- Supervise, delegate and oversee the work of technical staff and engineers
- Assist with and lead business development pursuits
- Coach and mentor junior engineers and designers.
- Communicate effectively and coordinate with project teams under other disciplines (drafters, designers, and subcontractors)
- Work collaboratively with groups across the Area and Company
Desired Skills and Experience:
- B.S. degree in related engineering field (Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, etc.) required
- Minimum of 4 years of experience preferred in municipal water and wastewater engineering and consulting with progressively increasing responsibility.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in the state of Virginia and/or District of Columbia, or the ability to obtain registration in a timely manner.
- Previous proven and successful project management experience on large municipal projects as either the lead or in an assistant project manager role
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, Project, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- NASSCO MACP/PACP/LACP certification, preferred
- Experience with data management
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with demonstrated ability to conduct effective presentations and prepare written reports and documents
- Valid driver’s license, good driving record and willingness to travel and conduct field work
- Position will include frequent local travel to client and field project sites throughout the DC Metro region.
- Ability to work effectively in a diverse team environment under tight and pressured deadlines
- Ability to focus on client needs while balancing multiple priorities including but not limited to project management, design, bidding and construction management services.
- The successful candidate’s traits will include being a self-starter, being results and quality-oriented, and having good attention to detail, a positive attitude, and enthusiasm to learn and grow
Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee’s primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.
