Position Description
This position will provide manufacturing support and guidance for a low-volume/high-mix Metal Fabrication Process (Shearing, Seam Welding, Rolling, Bellows Forming, Planishing, Weld NDT, Circumferential Resistance Welding) at Flexial Corporation. Many of the projects, processes, and/or tasks will be unique and multi-faceted and will require excellent written/verbal/nonverbal skills. Skills may include fixture design, instruction writing, collaborative problem solving, technological advancement deployment, and conducting meetings. Performance metrics will be departmental First Pass Yield (FPY), Production efficiency goals, and Timely Process Project Completion.
Process Engineer (Fabrication) General Requirements
- Must thrive in a low-volume/high-mix environment.
- Create and successfully deploy work-cell layouts, fixtures, gauges, processes, and work-holding solutions using SolidWorks 3D/ 2D, Assembly Process Instructions (APIs), and/or Job Aids.
- Select, develop, and deploy new Fabrication processes as needed or assigned.
- Troubleshoot, repair, and prevent Fabrication process problems using RCA tools such as Risk Analysis, Fishbone Diagram, Pareto Analysis.
- Ensure new and existing Fabrication processes are capable to meet and sustain safety, dimensional and workmanship requirements.
- Collaborate with leadership, Fabrication technicians, design engineers, and quality engineers to solve repeating problems.
- Safely deploy new Fabrication process and Fabrication equipment projects using Project Management Principles (Scope, Milestones, Risks, Constraints, Timeline).
- Document Fabrication best methods/recipes for difficult to process materials and geometries.
- Own the Fabrication Sections (Shearing, Seam Welding, Rolling, Bellows Forming, Planishing, Weld NDT, Circumferential Resistance Welding) of the Manufacturing Readiness Checklist.
- Effectively navigate and utilize FlexNet.
- Within Epicor (ERP), select workstations, sequences, run-rates, and add commentary as needed to the Router.
- Create reports that effectively communicate expectations and results.
- Ensure existing Fabrication processes and Fabrication equipment meet safety, run rates, scrap goals, and efficiency expectations.
- Demonstrate and regularly report departmental process improvement initiatives using the process project tracking meetings.
- Effectively communicate innovative ideas, feasibility, viability, and repeatability points.
- Own the successes or failures of your process responsibilities.
- Demonstrate solution-based thinking through teamwork, personal accountability, reliability, situational discernment, and coachability.
- Must be prepared to shift priorities and responsibilities as business needs shift.
- Can quickly switch work modes from standard work mode to a sense of urgency mode.
- Must be willing to travel ~3 weeks per year.
Technical Qualifications
- Bachelors of Science in Technical Discipline and 2+ years’ experience or 5+ years of relevant experience with relevant combined education.
- APQP new product launch experience/training.
- Epicor certification or equivalent ERP experience.
- SolidWorks experience, preferred (2000+ hours).
- AS9100 understanding or equivalent QMS.
- Microsoft Project, Excel, and Visio competency.
- TIG Welding, Forming, Resistance Welding, experience preferred.
Physical Requirements
- While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to walk; sit, talk and hear, stand, use hands; reach with hands and arms and climb or balance.
- Must be able to respond quickly to sounds, from multiple positions including sitting, kneeling, standing.
- Must be able to move safely in confined spaces, stepping over hoses, and pivoting around test equipment.
- Must be able to identify and respond to unsafe situations.
- Must be able to wear personal protective gear (Safety Glasses, Face Shield, Gloves) and Cleanroom attire (Cleanroom Gowns and Hairnet).
- Must be able to work on concrete floors.
- Must regularly reach overhead, reach at shoulder, reach at waist, pivot, and grasp.
- Must frequently walk, reach at knee, reach at floor, stoop, squat, twist, push / pull with arms, and perform fine motor movements.
- Must regularly stand, bend, crouch, kneel, stair climb.
- Must occasionally be exposed to loud noises.
- Must demonstrate the ability to lift/carry/push/pull 25 lbs, and manage in excess of 75 lbs.
