Job Summary:

We are seeking a committed Machine Operator/Sawyer at our Peotone, IL branch who will measure and cut steel in a safe and efficient manner based on customer requests and represent Brown Strauss with a positive attitude.

Essential Functions:

Cuts steel using various size saws in a safe and efficient manner.
Inspect equipment for all safety guards and operational features
Clean work area before and after shift.
Replenish all fluids, cutting oils and hydraulic oil as needed.
Must be able to read tape measures and micrometers and a square and have good math skills to ensure the cuts are done properly and to the correct length thus minimizing cutting time.
Must be forklift certified and have the ability to load cutting tables and restock material.
Must be capable of incorporating saw cutting into the load stacking processes and proficiently use a torch and banding equipment.
Must be able to run cranes if running the saw in the warehouse.
Must know material by sight to identify it before cutting.
Must be able to read and identify paper work problems before proceeding to avoid errors and costly mistakes.
Must be able to evaluate cutting time and meet the requirements expected by the company.
Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions.
Ability to work a variety of hours.
The ability to understand and communicate the English language both verbal and written.
Band saw experience preferred
Steel Industry experience preferred
Perform all warehouse and other duties as assigned
