With a strong focus on technical excellence, collaboration, and client satisfaction, S&ME is seeking a full-time Civil Staff Engineer to join our client Southern Company in their Energy center in Birmingham, Alabama to support their site work group. Join us at S&ME!
As a Civil Staff Engineer, you'll play a vital role in designing and developing projects for a wide range of projects with a particular focus on the evaluation and design of dams, landfills, reservoirs, stormwater management, slope repairs, and erosion and sediment control. Under the guidance of Professional Engineers, you'll engage in conceptual design, engineering analysis, and detailed calculations. Qualified candidates are expected to have experience with basic hydraulic and hydrologic analyses and the preparation of civil construction drawings.
Your Day to Day:
- Documentation: Prepare detailed drawings, specifications, and comprehensive reports to support project development. Ensure all documentation is accurate and aligns with project goals and regulatory standards.
- Site Inspections: Conduct thorough site inspections to ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, and safety standards. Identify and address any issues or discrepancies observed during inspections.
- Client Communication: Maintain clear and effective communication with clients to ensure project goals are understood and met. Provide regular updates and address any client concerns promptly.
- Project Planning and Management: Oversee project timelines, allocate resources, and ensure milestones are met. Assess project risks, review elements for completeness and accuracy, and determine appropriate design methodologies to achieve project goals.
- Mentoring Junior Staff: Provide guidance and support to junior team members, helping them develop their skills and knowledge. Offer constructive feedback and foster a collaborative learning environment.
What You Bring:
- A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, or a related field
- A minimum of 4 years of experience in civil engineering/water resources
- At least 1 year of experience as a project manager
- Engineer in Training (EIT) certification
- Basic business and technical writing skills
