Summary
Acts as the technical lead for research and development projects. Creates new materials and processes to meet industry challenges, and refines these down to well characterized product offerings. Researches and implements new characterization techniques to meet industry challenges and refines these down to well developed and validated methods.
As an Analytical Scientist, you will be responsible for method development, material characterization, and data interpretation using techniques such as
Liquid Chromatography (LC), LC-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS), Gas Chromatography (GC), GC-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS), Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC), Rheometer, Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA), Thermomechanical Analysis (TMA), and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC).
Your work will directly support R&D efforts, quality control, and customer-driven projects in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
Responsibilities
- Serves as the technical lead for research and development projects, driving multiple projects and multiple pathways, and performing advanced material characterization
- Serves as project lead, with minimal supervision to drive project management tasks including planning, meeting project deadlines, and may manage others
- Serves as technical adviser/mentor who provides problem solving and guidance to other team members
- Guides subordinates to complete tasks
- Presents to customers and at industry forums
- Documents work and initiates the submission of new intellectual property, and provides help with IP maintenance
- Provides help with experiment design and methods for in-depth data analysis.
- Practices independent learning of tools and techniques, tool theory, practice and maintenance.
- Acts as a mentor for laboratory practices
- Takes initiative to learn the needs of internal customers and is capable of translating these needs into innovative analysis
- Provides help with experiment design of MSAs and Gage R&Rs and methods for in-depth data analysis
- Performs method development, validation, and documentation
- Helps set safety and housekeeping standards and monitors how they are practiced in daily activities
- Keeps up to date on current advances in technology and analytical techniques within the industry and looks for areas to implement this knowledge
- Keeps up-to-date on best laboratory notebook practices and helps to improve and implement the process
Education & Credentials
- PhD in analytical chemistry plus 2 years’ experience or
- Master’s Degree in analytical chemistry plus 6 years’ experience or
- Equivalent combination of education and related experience
- Background in analytical chemistry, materials science, organic or polymer chemistry is required
- Experience managing projects and/or teams is preferred
