This position can be located either in the Sacramento or Ontario, California office locations. The position requires 3 days in the office and the ability to work from home Mondays and Fridays.
Summary
School Advisors Manager serves as a crucial liaison between HMC and school districts, dedicated to identifying and securing funding for education projects. School Advisors Manager works closely with managing principals, principals in-charge, and project proponents to effectively capture work in the K-12 market that aligns with the firm’s strategic vision, mission, and goals. Works directly with the Director of school advisor with the development of revenue and backlog goals within the market and provides support in the accomplishment of those goals.
Position Responsibilities
- Leads the preparation and submission of grant applications requests on behalf of school districts
- Ensure accuracy, completeness, and timely submission of all applicants
- Maintain records of application status and provide on-going follow-up
- Collaborate with internal and external clients to maximize funding opportunities for school districts
- Lead the efforts on federal, state, and local education applicable to school districts
- Analyze eligibility criteria and application requirements, tailoring research to the unique needs of individual school districts
- Stay informed about legislative changes affecting education programs
- Collaborate closely with school districts to access their specific capital investment needs
- Identify and evaluate potential funding sources that align with the distinctive requirements and objectives of each district
- Cultivate and nurture strong relationships with key stakeholders, including school district officials, government agencies, and funding organizations
- Advocate for school districts to secure funding through external communication with funding state agencies, and other relevant stakeholders
- Develop and deliver compelling presentations that highlight the capital investment needs
- Ensure compliance with all regulations and guidelines associated with education programs
- Generate regular funding status, application success rates, and emerging opportunities for school districts
- Ability to engage firm leaders as it relates to School Advisors services for their K-12 clients and projects and to act in a leadership capacity representing the group for services performed
- Lead negotiator on behalf of the client for all State agency disputes or issues
- Represent clients before the State Allocation Board (SAB) and to effectively communicate issues in light of the political arena; (Includes meeting with elected officials prior to actual meetings to articulate issue/(s) and potential solutions)
- Manage external client School Advisors contracts
- Promote School Advisors services and to secure new contracts for services (Business Development)
- Prioritizes and plans work, uses time efficiently and when appropriate, plans for additional resources when needed
- Proposals produced are clear and effective in communicating SA services and team members capabilities
- Mentors other leaders within the firm and supports individual professional development
- Consults with key county and state leaders within the market
- Maintains an effective profile for the firm at key K-12 conferences and events
- Coordinates, writes and publishes materials and publications for the market
- Collaborates and cooperates with the office/firm/market leadership in the development of strategic initiatives
- Work Closely with the Director of School Advisors to develop a detailed business plan for the future of School Advisors
- Participates in advocacy groups within the market, i.e. CASH, CEFPI, advisory committees, etc.
- Represents the firm at key events and various forums
Position Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- Architect licensure is preferred
- Experience working within the market sector is preferred, either in the K-12 industry or in K-12 architecture
- Responsible for training and mentoring of junior staff for State Agency approval processes
- Expert knowledge of the State School Facilities Program (SFP) and related agencies (CDE, OPSC, DTSC, DSA, SAB, Cities and Counties)
- Ability to adapt to change, to develop new ideas and approaches
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and contribute as a team member
- Ability to manage staff and evaluate the work of others
- Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability in response to client needs
- Ability to adjust market strategies to meet the needs of local offices

The salary range for this position is $85,065 to $127,281
The actual offered salary for this position will vary depending on multiple factors including the candidate’s qualification, education, position knowledge, work experience, skills, ability, work location, and internal incumbent compensation for similar roles. We do not anticipate individuals hired into this position will start at or near the top half of the range listed; the decision will be based on each individual case. The salary range listed above does not include other compensation elements such as discretionary bonus opportunities, employee stock ownership grants, paid time off, medical insurance, and other wage and benefit opportunities.
