Mark Thomas is hiring a Senior Accountant to the Accounting & Finance team! The Senior Accountant is responsible for general and technical accounting functions to include the development and maintenance of accounting systems, general ledger, asset and liability records and other financial transactions, as well as the reporting of financial and statistical data. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepares, analyzes, and reconciles general accounting reports, ledgers, journals, and schedules.
- Maintains monthly schedules related to prepaid transactions, fixed assets, prepares month-end closing accrual entries, reconciles monthly vendor statements, calendar year-end 1099 submissions.
- Analyzes and reconciles general ledger including balance sheet and income statement.
- Performs new vendor setup in our system, collecting proper tax forms and ACH information and ensuring accuracy.
- Maintains and updates 1099 contractors’ files on a regular basis; prepares and distributes 1099 and other related tax forms such as sales tax, use tax, federal taxes, property taxes, political contributions tax forms 461 and 496, etc.
- Works with external CPA firm to provide necessary information to complete annual year-end tax returns; completes property tax filings, etc.
- Supports finance and executive management in creating spreadsheets, providing audit data, and preparing special reports as assigned.
- Applies specialized accounting concepts to perform technical analyses to understand past performance and determine present and future performance and/or resource allocations.
- Applies Company policies and procedures to resolve a variety of issues at the highest levels of complexity, ensuring internal control objectives are met.
- Evaluates, interprets, and summarizes financial reports and accounting records.
- Identifies and corrects accounting/financial errors as needed; recommends new ways to control costs and improve efficiencies.
- Completes regulatory findings, income and expense report filing and general ledger closing cycle.
- Provides support and assistance for external/third party audits.
- Provides training, support, and mentorship to direct reports and other accounting team members and new employeesas appropriate; maintains accessibility and availability to provide assistance.
- Performs assigned responsibilities, tasks, assignments and/or requests in the absence of the Controller or accounting team members to include A/P Processing, credit card reconciliation, business license renewals/applications, monthly bank reconciliation, A/R collections, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business or related field required.
- At least 5-8+ years of experience working with generally accepted accounting principles and accounting software; experience working in a professional services environment – A/E/C industry experience preferred.
- Experience working with Deltek Vantagepoint and experience with government procurement, close familiarity with FAR principals. Strong technical accounting background, with experience in accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general ledger.
- Strong math and database skills; superior Excel skills (pivot tables, charts, VLOOKUP formulas, etc.)
- Thorough knowledge of financial statement preparation, including consolidations and other advanced topics.
- Thorough knowledge of financial analysis techniques.
- Strong analytical skills needed to structure and conduct analyses and to evaluate and develop logical solutions to accounting issues.
- Strong organizational skills; demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong communication skills, capable of articulating financial discrepancies and collaborating with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with a variety of unique and diverse people and personalities.

The offered rate of compensation (California locations only) will be based on individual education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities in addition to internal equity and geographic location. The base compensation range for this position is $83,000.00 - $137,000.00 annually.
