The role of a TruckWings Design Engineer is to perform mechanical engineering work associated with developing new products and maintaining existing products per internal and external customer requirements. This Design Engineer will work independently on activities in order of priority assigned by engineering leadership and may manage or interact with teams of other engineers, handling broad projects that include complex and ambiguous inputs and deliverables.
Back in November 2023, ConMet acquired TruckLabs, a technology company focused on reducing carbon emissions and improving operational efficiencies for fleets.
The preferred work location is ConMet's corporate headquarters in Vancouver, Washington. Non-local candidates must be open to relocation (relocation assistance available).
Key Duties
- Develop new and modify existing TruckWings products, subassemblies, and components per external and internal customer requirements. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Generate 3D models and 2D drawings with support from Design and CAD Engineers.
- Analyze FEA and test results, incorporating into feedback loop to ensure product requirements and acceptance criteria are met.
- Determine appropriate tolerances, critical characteristics, and material specifications.
- Incorporate design for manufacturing best practices, packaging, and plant feedback.
- Document complete design process and results and support design reviews.
- Support release of necessary drawings, Bill of Material (BOMs), and specifications through ECN as part of drawing release workflow.
- Conduct and/or witness testing of parts, assemblies, and full systems.
- Prototype parts and assemblies using internal and external build resources.
- Author and maintain engineering documentation, including specifications, test plans, test reports, and presentations.
- Perform root cause analysis and problem solving.
- Ensure work and documentation meets all necessary quality system requirements and participate in internal and external quality audits.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum two to five (2-5) years of experience in new product development in automotive, aerospace, or commercial vehicles.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience with Solidworks CAD modeling parts and assemblies
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience conducting prototype and development builds
- Commercial vehicle experience, especially cab and cab mounted equipment
- Experience with mechatronic systems
- Working knowledge of GD&T and 2D print creation to ASME Y14.5 standards
- Experience using PLM systems (Windchill) to manage CAD data and BOM revision control
- Experience with NX CAD system
- Knowledge of APQP processes
- Experience with DFMEA process

Salaried Exempt Compensation & Benefits
- New hires generally start between $77,177 - $110,253. The full salary range for the position, across all geographies is, $77,177 - $132,304 per year. The upper portion of the salary range is typically reserved for existing employees who demonstrate strong performance over time. Starting salary will vary by location, qualifications, and prior experience.
- Targeted annual bonus is based on company performance to objectives during the fiscal plan year which runs from October 1 – September 30.
