We are seeking a motivated, achievement-oriented individual who wants to spend their summer gaining practical, hands-on experience outside of the classroom. Detailed Description: Brown and Caldwell is looking for a summer intern to assist the wastewater treatment group in Washington with planning and design projects in biological wastewater treatment.
How Will You Make an Impact?
Interns at Brown and Caldwell make a daily, material impact by completing support duties to advance their team’s projects and objectives. They receive professional training and the support of their team. Interns can expect to be onboarded, mentored, and developed by industry leaders to develop real-life skills and make an impact on their assigned projects. Projects this role may work on include:
- Field work to support testing of equipment and processes
- Analysis of plant operating data
- Modeling of biological processes
- Planning and layout development of wastewater processes
- Cost development
- Equipment research and manufacturer coordination
As a wastewater intern, you can expect your experience to include the following:
- Work closely with project managers and other team members to execute work involving conventional types of civil, environmental, and/or mechanical engineering principals and other related activities for water and wastewater treatment and conveyance projects.
- Communicate effectively and coordinate with project teams including other disciplines (e.g., drafters, designers, and other engineers).
- Assist with the preparation of calculations, technical memoranda, reports, presentations, drawings, specifications, and miscellaneous contract documents.
- Perform data entry, analysis, and visualization.
- Participate in field work, as needed for projects.
- Successfully manage and deliver assignments on time.
- Adhere to Brown and Caldwell’s quality assurance/quality control process.
Work schedule and location: Hybrid work schedule: 3+ days in office at Seattle Office, Up to 2 days remote, occasional field work
Desired Skills and Experience:
To qualify for an internship, you must be enrolled in a full-time program (minimum nine credit hours per semester) seeking a degree in engineering, science, geology, or a related field. You also must be in good standing and carry an overall GPA of at least 3.0 in your core curriculum, as well as a minimum overall GPA of 3.0.
What Must Our Candidate Have? (Required)
- Must be enrolled in a wastewater treatment or environmental engineering program within the United States
- Must be at least in or have completed your third year of engineering at an accredited university, or higher. Graduate school candidates preferred.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Look Like? (Preferred)
- General knowledge of the wastewater treatment process
- General knowledge of mass transfer
- The candidate must be in good academic standing with their university and carry both a cumulative and core curriculum GPA of at least 3.0
Salary Range: The hourly pay range for this position is based on the employee’s primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.
